I know you didn't call anyone irrational here, but you generally say religion is not rational or necessary. So that would mean people following a religion are not rational, right? I am not trying to be confrontational, just saying that when I see someone say something like that, I assume they think I am irrational since I do follow a religion.

Why? I have a right to my own beliefs and to be able to voice them, and explain why I think the way I do just the same as you do. That does not necessarily mean that I look down on people who think differently - which is your implication of 'irrational' or that I find religious people irrational in every aspect of their lives. I find religious belief irrational, so what? I'll judge you on the actions you take, not on the thoughts you have about the existence of god - I would hope you would do the same for me.

I thought I made it quite plain already that there are aspects of religion that I think are very beneficial to society as a whole, no?

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Well maybe I just needed clarification. Because at times I have very much felt like you looked down on people who believed differently. But I won't assume that anymore.

No, I don't look down on anyone - I do know that is how some people see what I post however. In the same way that you find my lack of belief incredible, I find people's belief in a personal and caring god incredible - but I am a strong believer in humanity - humans have some amazing abilities, quite extraordinary.

I don't actually see your lack of belief as incredible, I find it common these days. I do think humans are in charge of their own decisions good or bad, even if I believe differently in the influences during choices in life. Humans are capable of both wonderful and horrible things, I know we agree on that.

Being common doesn't make it credible. You are perfectly well aware of my meaning. :) Some people are unable to separate their own beliefs from certainty that what they believe is necessary for everyone. You are not one of those.

Sorry Danno, but your little band of merry men would be just as bad as the muslims you so despise if you had your way. I don't expect you to see that because you don't see where the root of these problems lies. Luckily for you, there are enough of us rationalists in the west to stop you and your cronies from establishing a 'christian' state of the USA.

MC, the problem with "Rationalists" like you is... you are first and foremost dishonest. (You quote Christian above, though I never used the word)

Secondly you are ignorant of American history.

Thirdly you hail from a country which though it was saved from Hitler it went on to self destruct... under liberal logic such as yours.

This Country has a long history of Christians of all stripes being in power,

I think we have remained well balanced in this regard.

I have been very clear and honest. People who are determined to impress their brand of religion on all are a danger to everyone, including members of their own faction. The US attempts to maintain a political system where no one church has state endorsement, but plenty of people, you included would like the state to endorse their own brand of religion. If that ever happened, the US would not be a very comfortable place to live. As one of the rationalists I'll endeavor to make sure that never happens ;)

The UK has not self destructed and all religious denominations and all political ideologies have a voice.
