This guy pulled in at the same time as we did at the gym today. We watched him and jokingly said "he will probably park in the fuel efficient spot".

Not only did he park in the fuel efficient vehicle spot, he's hanging over into the HOV spot. It was one guy.

Why do people have to try so hard to live up to stereotypes?

I'm not sure really-this is a relatively new building and they have highly promoted it as being "green". I guess the FE and HOV spots are part of that. A lot of people don't follow it or even know what it means, but I thought this was just a classic representation of Hummer owning stereotype here. ;)

food for thought - hummers are wider than the average vehicle. i'm sure many drivers don't take that into account when parking in places for average width vehicles.

I'm not much for stereotypes although I admit at times there is a few ounces of truth to them lol. Looks like that guy has the need to over compensate for something. I don't hate hummer drivers or those that arrive to work/gym/store etc in a large over-sized vehicles then can't park it properly. Having said that I've seen quite a few smaller sized cars parked all over parking spaces. I mean parking isn't rocket science. Line up the car or in this case the "mini bus" that is a hummer with the lines and park straight ahead. I'm afraid to think how many people in the US would fail an Irish or UK driving test on just parking/reversing maneuvers alone! lol

I've never seen fuel-efficient spots or HOV spots - I'm not sure if they are enforceable,

but as in most cases in this country, anything that requires courtesy is usually out the

window from the get-go unless there are stiff penalties tied to those who don't comply.

I think the real story here is about the 'green' parking spaces.

It was probably fatal to the hummerist,

which would seem like poetic justice

because in 99% of crashes with other

vehicles the hummer would come out

without a scratch.

It's a nice touch that the school bus

seemed to be relatively undamaged,

hoping that no students were injured.

Looks like a Darwin award for the hummerist,

but according to the Darwin rules things like

tailgating are too common & banal to qualify

for a Darwin. Darwins are reserved for acts

of major idiocy. This seemed like a very ordinary jerk.

Yep, as I said in my previous post I've never actually seen them, nor the HOV ones...

I guess New York State figures they can't be enforced because NY drivers are

among the worst (for courtesy) in the world. I've seen a lot of abuse regarding

handicapped spots. I have a handicapped sign to hook on the rear-view but

I have ONLY and I mean ONLY used it when my 85-year old mom is on board

as it is registered to her.

Allocation of parking spaces in this manner is to do with LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) accreditation, LEED being the accepted standard for evaluating how "green" construction might be.

There will be a certain number of FE and HOV spaces based on a proportion of the building occupancy, both permanent and transient. As for enforcing proper use, I'm sure that if the building privately owned the management can enforce whatever parking rules they want, if they choose to enforce any at all. But the LEED points aren't contingent on the enforcement, only the initial designation. So why bother?

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself
