Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if there's a requirement (that you have to be with you fiance for X period of time) before you can file for a K1 visa request or is it a no holds barred section?

My fiance and I haven't been together that long compared to the other couple who's gone through the K1 route and I'm worried that because of that fact, it's going to cause us some issues along the way.

I would really appreciate any feedback.

We haven't even begun yet and already I'm a nervous wreck

hhmm.. i dont think there is.. all i know is that you have to see each other personally no longer than 2 years before your fiancé files for the k1.. also collect all the necessary documents to prove the relationship is genuine (passport stamps, letters, email, phone records, receipts.. etc..)

well good luck.. continue browsing vj if you have concerns.. this site will help you a lot.. =)

VJ is awesome! I'm so happy we found it.

It's really been a great deal of help for us so far in terms of finding out what we need to do.

I really appreciate the reply, Thank you!

No requirement- you can technically meet in the street for the first time for one minute, take a photo, then go home and file. You must show that your relationship is bonafide (emails, chat logs, visits etc), and that tends to be easier for those who have been together longer, but time is not an absolute requirement.

no minimum time required, only that you saw each other in person WHITIN the previous 2 years before submitting the petition. could also be just once, and could also be the first time you ever met. obviously the shorter the riskier, because the IO could suspect that there is a visa fraud going on.

Hello,

This is also a concern of mine since my fiance and I have not known each other for very long either. When I sent my I 129 F petition I included photographs and also copies of my cell phone bills fo the last 3 months (which showed his cell phone number). I am also gathering evidence (phone cards, MSN and Skype logs, cell phone bills, etc.) and I'm planning on returning for a visit at the end of the year. I guess I still do not know for sure whether the length of our relationship will matter or not, but I guess my advice would be to be particularly careful in gathering evidence to show a bona fide relationship so by the time the interview comes you have lots of evidence to prove your case!

Best wishes!

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

My fiance and i have just crossed a year and though we are not finished with the process from what i have read you just need to show that you have an ongoing relationship and that you have met in the last two years.

as long as you talk alot and you keep the chat logs of when you skype or ym and have lots of emails you should be fine.

and also remember this. they ask general questions at the interview that you should know the answers to. would kinda suck to get there and they ask you what his mothers name is and you tell them you dont know :)

At the interview you do HAVE to prove you have a bonafide loving relationship and know each other very well. Multiple visits and LOTS of pictures of you guys with family and friends are a BIG plus. My fiancee was denied do to lack of such pictures.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!

My being a pack rat will have its advantage in this case.

That would be sad if that was the case..., funny, but sad.

Oh Wow! Im really sorry to hear that... I hope everything worked out in the end.

Do they have some sort of minimum requirement as to how many?

I know this is a conversation about the Consulate in Phillipines, but I would like to add my opinion about this.

We plan on bringing over 100 photos to the interview, photos with us, photos with our family, friends... There's not a limit, but clearly don't go with just 20 photos. If your Consulate it's hard, then the more, the better.

We're waiting for NOA1 and NOA2 and hope this goes fast and we can soon be together. Me and my fiancé are both from Romania. He was selected in the diversity visa program, DV Lottery. He's been living in the USA since 2005. We've known each other since 2006 and we've been friends for an year. Our relationship started in June 2007 and since then we've been waiting impatiently for him to become a USC. He finally did it this summer, he had his Naturalization Ceremony on August 6, 2010. We sent our petition last week and we're sooo excited that we can finally be together. We're hoping for a fast journey, being so sick of waiting all these years. Good luck to us and to everyone who wants to be with their loved ones! VJ is the best ever...!!

There are two requirements:

For the initial filing with USCIS, that you two met in person (can be for 2 seconds to take a photo together while connecting in an airport) within the two years prior to filing the petition.

For the interview that you can prove that you have a legitmate relationship. My wife and I only met in person for 10 days and during three months prior to that and the 10 months following until her interview only emailed, phone calls and Skyped with each other.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!
