Generally you need to make at least 125% of poverty guideline for your family size to be Ok for sponsoring someone. Good Luck

If you are looking for the poverty guidelines for 2006, below is copied straight from a US Embassy site as the USCIS and DOS have yet to release them officially. I imagine it is not too far off.

2006 Poverty Guidelines

Effective March 1, 2006 Here are the 2006 Poverty Guidelines for the 48 Contiguous States and the District of Columbia:

Size of Family Unit Poverty Guidelines 125% of Poverty Guidelines

1.....................$9,800.................$12,250

2.....................$13,200................$16,500

3.....................$16,600................$20,750

4.....................$20,000................$25,000

5.....................$23,400................$29,250

6.....................$26,800................$33,500

7.....................$30,200................$37,500

8.....................$33,600................$42,000

For family units with more than 8 members, add $3,400 for each additional member to meet the poverty guideline; $4,250 to meet 125% of the poverty guideline.

Hi, what if you come close to amount you must have but still fall short? I think about less then $100.00..this not too bad I hope, I will have a family of two.. :help

The same thing happened to me...since they've raised the guidelines for 2006. I fall $128 short. SO now I'll have to fall back on my savings. Not that I mind, but really...a friggin' $128 short. I don't guess they'll take anything less...if they did that, they would have to make exceptions for other things too.

I guess you would either have to find another job or get a co-sponsor. Hope this helps.

Yes, I have options without using a co-sponsor...it just sucks that I'm that much short now that they've raised the guidelines.
