The reason the US doesn’t want people to view Hizbullah favorably is because Nasrallah is actually intelligent, he’s an intellectual (contrary to what most might know of him). He has also become a prominent figure in the region, because his politics make sense to regular citizens. But that don’t fit in neatly with America’s dabbling in the Middle East, because the rest of the region’s political leaders follow America’s orders blindly, where as Hizbullah actually speak what they believe.

If people in the West were to know any truth about that situation it would surely jeopardize Israel’s agenda, and expose their own terrorism. And who better than Hizbullah to deflect attention away from Israel. They are Muslim after all (naturally-as is the majority of the region ) and since most people in the West already equate Islam with violence it works perfectly for America and Israel.

The Christians in Lebanon supporting Hizbullah are also part of an alliance party together with Nasrallah (the March 8th Alliance, making 50% of the Lebanese Government). Then there’s the other camp of Christians and Muslims (March 14th Alliance) making up the other half. They do however all sit in the same parliament together discussing the politics of their country.

A perfect example of SAME religion opposition, and cross-religious collaboration. But who wants to believe that actually takes place in the Middle East.

The point I was making about Hezbullah is even they couldn't break the media barrier and make a splash on the scene when denouncing Al Qaeda. As the widow of a Lebanese Christian and with the other connections I have, I know much about the political view from there. Most westerners think all these Organizations are just for Muslims and they're all out to kill Christians and Ameticans, but they're not. Far from all being allied, rooted in identical ideologies or being about religion, they are quite diverse in their scope and purpose.

Hezbullah is a nationalist group. So is Hamas. On the other hand, al Qaeda rejects nationalism. Al Qaeda is predominantly Sunni, but refuses to adhere to Sunni orthoproxy. It intends to reform the faith by circumventing normal channels of authority and interpretation and issuing their own edicts and fatwas, much like the the Salaf sect, in the Gulf states. Commonly known in the west as "Wahabis", they promote a strict, austere version of Islam that they believe to be modeled on the early Arabian Muslim community.

Hamas is Sunni backed; Hezbollah is Shia supports. Those two branches rarely come together to support each other. Salafs reject Shias, nationalists disagree with nationalist rejectors. Most Muslims in the world have nothing and want nothing to do with any of this or the other political groups and situations I don't have time to explain. Suffice it go say that to get a large group of Muslims together to engage in politics is like herding cats. Most US Muslims don't even regularly attend masjid, even those who are observant, because the work week is not that flexible for Friday observances. We have no pope, no true central authority to speak for the majority. But, there have been many groups and numerous individuals who have spoken out since and before 9/11, online, in the pages of the NY Times, in books, on YouTube, pretty much anywhere you can post an opinion. You just gotta look for us. We are out there.

Here would be a good start. Everytime a loony tune Radical Cleric issues a fatwa of death, openly, loudly, and convincingly condemn the issuer of said fatwa. I know, I know, it is much more productive to spend your time telling non-Muslims what idiots we are for believing these issuers of death threat fatwas have anything to do with Islam in your view. But try what I suggest. If just half of the 93% of non-Radical Muslims participated, their voices would be 6 times greater than the loonies!

A), Moderate Muslim leaders do speak out, plenty. Yet all we hear is how they never do. Asked, answered, and ignored. B) How bizarre is it to expect people who are sitting around mending socks and eating dinner and living their lives to be responsible for denouncing the crazies that share a tenuous thread with their own religion or culture or whatever?

That's almost like demanding that white people get the phone tree cracking every time some angry pale nitwit goes all Columbine. The conflation of terrorists with average Muslims is a problem in the mind of the intellectually lazy propaganda-consumer; it is not the responsibility of every person of Muslim faith.

But if it is, we smug Americans should all get moving on some pretty late homework. Also the Christians and the straights and every other group with Bad Example Members. See how easy it is to say, "Oh please; those freaks are freaks. Nothing to do with me." Why are Muslims held to a different standard? Why are they, every one, responsible for educating the rest of us? They aren't. Everybody is responsible for his or her own ignorance or illumination.

THose who are the "fake" muslims have the Ballz to target and kill people who are doing what they find offensive.... such as naming a teddy bear Muhammad or drawing a cartoon.

The "real Muslims" seem to be a tamer bunch, they hardly do a thing about fake Muslims leading others astray and turning much of the civilized world against Islam.

What should they do?

I haven't checked the rule book but I would imagine if ever there was a cause to send out a FATWA..... this would be the time.... when someone is falsifying your faith and killing innocent people in the name of it.

In fact, if real Muslims can't curb this stuff, our Gov ought to target for assassination any such leader who sends out a death threat (fatwa) against an american.

The notion of irony or the option of a deeper investigation into context is not exactly at hand.

Police earlier arrested five suspected Islamist terrorists, working as street cleaners in London, during raids at 5.45am at a rubbish depot in central London based on an intelligence tip-off received overnight.

The suspects, aged 26, 27, 36, 40 and 50 were arrested by officers from Scotland Yard’s Counter Terrorism Command on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

They are said to be from a variety of nationalities including a number of Algerian origin.

The sixth man, aged 29, was arrested at 1.45pm at a house in north London. Police said they were searching eight homes in north and east London and two businesses in central London.

The depot where the street cleaners worked they worked is less than a mile from Hyde Park where the Pope was due to hold a prayer vigil on Saturday evening.

As street cleaners they would have been able to move relatively freely and inconspicuously through the London crowds.

Westminster City Council said the men worked for Veolia Environmental Services, a contractor which employs 650 on-street staff to keep Westminster's streets clean and free from rubbish.

The men were taken to a central London police station to be interviewed by detectives.

Searches are being carried out under the Terrorism Act 2000 at the rubbish depot and at residential premises in north and east London.

Sources said that initial searches had not uncovered any bomb-making or hazardous items.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said the arrests were made after they received “information” and added: “Following initial inquiries by detectives a decision was made to arrest the five men.”

Pope Benedict XVI’s security arrangements were reviewed following the arrests and Scotland Yard said “we are satisfied that our current policing plan remains appropriate. The itinerary has not changed.”

There was no change to the terrorism threat level which remains at “severe” meaning that a terrorist attack is highly likely.

The Pope continued with his engagements, unaffected by the developments and attended a historic prayer meeting at Wesminster Abbey held by Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Vatican spokesman Fr Lombardi said told reporters there was "no need to change anything about the programme with the Pope and the security for this trip".

"The Pope is calm and happy and we go on with this trip with courage and joy," he added.

"We are totally confident in the work of the police and Scotland Yard."

A multimillion-pound operation is in place to protect the Pope during his tour of Scotland, London and the West Midlands, with thousands of officers involved.

The pontiff is also protected by members of the Swiss Guard.

He often travels in the Popemobile, which has a bulletproof glass enclosure. The Vatican abandoned the use of an open-topped vehicle after the assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II in 1981.
