Engagement ring

I have read that an engagement ring is optional. Do you really need to get one or can you just skip that ring and go to the marriage rings? Like does someone ever need to buy one before getting married to prove anything to the consulate?

If you do not buy a ring then at some point in your marriage there is another argument or fight, just sayin...

It's not a requirement , but it's one of those intangibles which may be a good idea. What could it hurt if the consul officer saw an engagement ring on her finger? It may put the consul officer in a good mood at just the right time.

Among many other things that are not required, it's not a requirement that your sweetheart be polite to the consul officer during her interview. It's also not required that she dress appropriately.

I guess it boils down to how lucky you feel. However, Chinook and I prefer to make our own luck. That's why Chinook wore her engagement ring to her interview. It gave her a lot of confidence when she needed it the most.
