Wifey was naturalized yesterday. (And much to everyone's surprise, she's still here today.)

In true Russian fashion, she didn't want anyone to know about it and kept it hush-hush until it was too late, "who will be take my picture?" I planned a big celebration and party with friends, family, and everyone we knew, but of course, we had to keep it quiet until after it happened. By then... it was too late! I had to work (so I didn't even go) and she had to work right after.

Like most other things in America, whooptidy freakin doo. Time for the blue passport.

Congrats, Slim. My wife has been eligible for a while and we did print out the forms, but we have been too busy and too lazy to finish and send it off. Just has not been a priority lately. When I ask her about finishing the paper work she looks at me and tells me it is my job, so I shove those papers back into a corner and forget about them for another month or so. One of these days.....

I did do all the I-130 paperwork for her daughter, and just recently sent in to NVC the I-864 so things are getting done there. I am not so bad husband!

Edit: Just told my wife the good news and she asked why I have not done hers yet! Then she wanted to know if the test was difficult.

she asked why I have not done hers yet! Then she wanted to know if the test was difficult.

My wife did her own paperwork and sent it in all by herself. She also came up with the money to pay the fee!

The only thing I really did was help her study. (I helped myself too.... I knew most of it, but was kind of embarassed I didn't know it all. They say something like only 26% of Americans can past that test.) It wasn't too hard, just had to memorize the questions and answers. They actually send a pretty nice study guide and CD-rom with the test questions on it. I think at the interview they only ask a few questions. I forget exactly which questions they asked, but they were "easy" ones.

I've asked several of my friends/family the same questions and hardly any of them knew. Sad, but my foreign-born wife knows more about American history and govt. than most Americans. I'm still trying to change that - http://www.appleseedinfo.org

she's stuck around you still?

She was here this morning but already gone for most of the day to a concert up in Columbus with her bff. They probably won't be home until tomorrow sometime. With all the college football, NASCAR, and then NFL football tomorrow, I told her to have fun (and kind of insinuated that she should just stay gone!)

In truth, I don't see much changing in our lives. I'm hoping that now she's an American she'll be able to work a full-time job and we'll finally start living the American dream.

You mean she wasn'tjust after you for your money!???

I think that's been obvious from day one. I don't want to say I've "tested" my wife, but I've always insisted she pay her fair share. Plus, what the hell would she use me for? My laundry money?

I'd be more than happy to pay her way for everything if I was in your age group (and someday I'm sure I will!) but for right now, and during the last few years of this VJ process, I've been adamant that she pay her own way to happiness. I'm not paying for everything she wants. I think it's important for her to learn that if she wants something - especially in America - it's important to work hard for it and pay for it yourself. Why should our marriage be any different?

I firmly believe by the time I'm actually able to pay for everything she won't need to use me for my money since she'll have plenty of her own. And if all goes well, we'll have plenty of "our" money to use for our happiness together.

Keep us informed on how it is to be married to an American.

She left up out of here today in sweats and flip flops carrying a coffee and a bag (not a paketi, but a real bag) with her "nice clothes" to change into once they got to the other girl's condo. She didn't have her hair done, no make-up, and she had on flat shoes. I couldn't believe she went out into the streets where people could see her like that.

I'm dreading the weight gain. Although.... I am looking forward to having someone here to watch the games with.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
