THE State Opposition yesterday accused the Keneally Government of deliberately withholding embarrassing hospital waiting list figures.

Opposition health spokeswoman Jillian Skinner said the Government had delayed updating waiting list figures on its website since March, when a record 67,500 patients were in the queue. The June figures, released late yesterday by NSW Health, showing a current waiting list of 66,817.

Although down from the March quarter, Ms Skinner said, the waiting list was 2305 higher than at the same time last year.

The Opposition claims came as the first quarterly review of hospitals was released by the Board of Health Information (BHI), covering April to June this year.

Ms Skinner claimed surgery waiting lists had been dropped from the report to cover up the worsening state of hospitals.

"I believe it's because the Government is too embarrassed to let the public know exactly how many people are waiting for surgery," she said.

Health Minister Carmel Tebbutt welcomed the report, saying it showed emergency departments were performing well and waiting times for elective surgery had decreased.

A spokesman for Ms Tebbutt earlier denied the Government was trying to hide the waiting list figures, saying the BHI report was never supposed to include such data.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Yes, there is a wait for non-essential [public] surgeries.

How many Australians go bankrupt on die on the street because they cannot afford health care?

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I can play this game too though,

The USA spends more than any other country on health care, and more on maternal health than any other type of hospital care. Despite this, women in the USA have a higher risk of dying of pregnancy-related complications than those in 40 other countries. For example, the likelihood of a woman dying in childbirth in the USA is five times greater than in Greece, four times greater than in Germany, and three times greater than in Spain.

African-American women are nearly four times more likely to die of pregnancy-related complications than white women. These rates and disparities have not improved in more than 20 years.

Maternal deaths are only the tip of the iceberg. During 2004 and 2005, more than 68,000 women nearly died in childbirth in the USA. Each year, 1.7 million women suffer a complication that has an adverse effect on their health.

Plenty! It's sad and pathetic.

Who? Where? Who billed them into bankruptcy?

Stop playing dumb.

Australia is ranked 5th for life expectancy, the US is ranked 38th. Strange for a country which apparently has a poor health care system.

7th versus 50th, when ranked by the CIA.
