The k-1 visa interview appointment is set for September 22 at the US embassy in Lima, Peru. I plan on attending the interview so I already have my flight & rental apartment booked. I have been meticulously gathering evidence/proof of our ongoing relationship in the last few months and plan to bring it with me. We are fairly well prepared and this website has helped tremendously! We are waiting for the visa interview appointment letter so she can bring it to the medical exam but it has not yet arrived...all her other documents are pretty much in order (i.e. antecedentes policiales, penales, judiciales & partido de nacimiento verified by RENIEC).

An immigration attorney recommended it so I sent in the I-134 affidavit of support w/ all the supplementary documents along with the I-129F petition..however, I later read that this was not recommended (I am making a new I-134 dated closer to the interview..just so they know that I still have a job and haven't gone bankrupt).

I have ready somewhat contradictory statements about the I-134...is it necessary to get my financial documents (or any documents, for that matter) notarized? The I-134 instructions state that this is not necessary but I read somewhere in the Peruvian embassy reviews that it was. Also...any last minute advice? I know that it's helpful to show up really early and not bring any electronics..

one more thing...I read somewhere that you need to bring your ORIGINAL tax return to the interview. Is this true? I am bringing all the original documents I possibly can to the interview (i.e. my passport, birth of US citizen born overseas, boarding passes) but I'm not sure how I'm going to possibly bring an original tax return. I filed it electronically (through TurboTax) & it was accepted by the IRS. I have a PDF of the document saved but it's not really original.

so will I have to request this information (tax transcripts & w-2) from the IRS itself? Through my employer I have my 2009 & 2008 W-2s...hopefully this works. I'm not sure if I have enough time left to wait for official tax transcripts from the IRS. I hope the PDFs I have from the electronically submitted tax returns work!

Re: Tax transcripts

I have heard that you can get them faxed to you on the spot when you call. I had mine mailed to me and they arrived fairly quickly (a week to 10 days) but that's cutting it a little too close for your time frame.

Look into having them faxed to you. Someone else may know how to go about that.

Just got off the phone with IRS customer service...they are very picky about where you have them faxed to, it sucks because i don't have a landline phone so faxing is tricky for me. I tried to get them to send to an e-fax # and they refused...then to a fax machine at my parent's house which they also refused to do(apparently they want you to be physically next to whatever fax machine they are sending it to). BUT in the end they gave me the address to a local IRS office 5 miles from my house where I can walk in and they'll give me everything I need. WHEW! You all saved me much heartache so thanks for the advice...could have been in for a shocker if they denied me for my 'unofficial' tax transcripts..pretty ridiculous.

We got our visa approved in Colombia and I didnt have my documents notarized. If would say get them notarized if you have concerns. You're making a big investment in time and money so I would get them notarized to calm your fears.

Well, I am also in this process with the peruvian embassy with you. I have not yet recieved my NOA2, but I do have friends that have done this through Peru. They said you should arrive early and expect to wait until about lunch to get in to the interviewer. From there, they look at the documents and proof or relationship, and might ask a few questions. But I have yet to hear from anyone that the visa was denied in Peru. Just be careful for a darker skinned interviewer, I have heard he grills people and needs a lot of proof too.

That is what we used. The electronically submitted tax returns and copies of w-2's. Good luck and stay relaxed, everything will be fine.

I do not understand why everyone says that about the African American Man. He was the one that interviewed us and he was OK. He was serious about his work and asked questions, but nothing that would be considered trying to give us a hard time. When I seen it was him I thought we was finished after reading everything some have said about him. Maybe we caught him on a good day but he was fine with us.
