Remember VHS tapes of movies cost about $80.00?

Yep, although that was really just in the beginning until Hollywood realized they could make a fortune off of video sales. Movie sales were huge for a long time and even through the DVD phase, but have started to really drop off since the introduction of high quality digital video. I think even Blu Ray discs will be a thing of the past as everything will eventually be available digitally.

Thanks. I was thrown off by the online message that said the hardware doesn't support it. I just ordered the disk! No more plugging my laptop into my TV set!

Downside to watching netflix on a Wii instead of a computer (or set-top box): No high-definition streams since the Wii can't handle HD.

I remember when you could rent BetaMax movies too. And a VCR cost about $500.

Betamax players still cost about that, on the low end.

We mostly use Netflix for our DVDs. There's a lot of stuff on Instant Viewing. Hulu is a good site for some TV shows as well.

Once in a while, we pick up a DVD from the $5 bins.

We both have a decent DVD collection as well so if there's nothing to watch on TV, we just pop something in. I always bring back lots of Hindi movies from India whenever I get the chance.

We don't have a DVD player, we just use Mr. Sachinky's x-box as the DVD player.

We have a basic cable connection so we can keep up with House, Lost (no more!), my soap operatic shows like Brothers and Sisters and Desperate Housewives that Mr. Sachinky reluctantly watches.

Since the VHS broke we haven't replaced it (may do so when we get a good deal).

We have Blu-Ray on the computer and could hook it up to the widescreen TV, but

haven't done that as of yet.

We usually watch DVD movies from the public library - I have membership in both Westchester & NY City

libraries which are each awesome in their own way. They both have many indy and foreign movies.

We just restarted our Netflix membership after a two year hiatus and I am amazed at how many movies they now have available for instant viewing. I'm using an s-video cable from my laptop to our TV and then a wire from the headphone outlet to just the right side audio of the TV. It works ok, but I need to get an audio cable that splits from a single into a left and right.

Our first streaming movie was Ponyo. If you haven't watched that with Kavi, I'd highly recommend it. I think you'd love it too. :)

Sorry, only now saw this quote. Good to know, will put it in the "queue". :) (I always feel silly saying that word.) We should watch it soon because sometimes movies are only instant play for a certain period of time!

I think we hook ours similarly, I don't know, Suj does most of that part. :P We did get some $20 computer speakers that have good bass and sound and hooked it up at the tv for movie time!! Those can get turned up loud.
