VJ's obsession with Muslims

I don't watch a lot of television news. Is it as overloaded with discussion about Islam and Muslims as Visa Journey is? Why is there this obsession in VJ?

Yesterday around 5pm I put on CNN and oh my, was it abuzz with this whole "Pastor says he is canceling his burn the koran day, talked to a local Imam..." "says he was told mosque is being moved..." and they were all scrambling for details. Throw in Trump saying he'd buy the property for much more that it was being sold for to help lessen the conflict and it was news chaos IMO.

It's annoying how they all think they have to race to get the latest news and they stay on the same subject for hours. Some of the news anchors even look embarrassed after awhile, to me. I bet some producer is telling them in their ear buds what to say and they are thinking "this is ####### but I need a paycheck".

I stopped watching cable news and listening to talk radio because it just started to make me angry. The same arguments over and over and people being extremely rude and condescending - on both sides.

I was walking through the parking lot today on my way into work and saw a car with a bumper sticker that said "Take America back 2010". I went into a mad rage, the adrenaline gave me super human strength! I picked the car up and flung it through the office window. And then I found the owner and ripped his heart out. Die, RWN and hater of children, die!

No, not really. I did see the bumper sticker though.

To answer Jenn's question with a bit more seriousness, yes - cable news has been saturated with Muslims for a few weeks now.

Very soon it will be about Mexicans and/or socialists again, so rest easy. News cycles don't last forever.

I agree It is a cycle

Everyone has views and differ slightly.

For the most part even people disagreeing with a muslim view point or wanting Illegals out of the country they are not prejudice towards a particular people but the want to be vocal on what bothers them and what they percieve as happenign

We do often get under each others nerves but I can say no ones has yet to blatantly attack me personally or be down right mean; at least to me.

It is always the case they want the scoop and Mad was right it is most often shameful what they write about.

It's 9/11 season. Wait a few weeks and you will see it go back to the normal background noise. In a sense the terrorists won. They managed to cause us to fear the dark and lash out in all directions. They have us fighting each other and tied us up in two wars that never should have happend. It is a shame really.

I think it's because VJ is the only place some of us know any Muslims at all. As I might not consider myself to really "know" even 50 people and Muslims are about 2% of the population it's not that surprising that even one of them isn't Muslim. Especially since I'm from (crazy) evangelical Christian stock, most of my "inherited" acquaintances are as well.

So, even if I was on talk-about-religion-and-politics comfort level with 50+ people, and one of them (statistically) was a Muslim, would they be able to have in-depth discussions about it? Probably not....

Actually the reason they are in discussion is because of their actions. People are not just randomly bringing up death to Islam or death to Imam threads now are they.

What many with Islamic beliefs or spouses that are Islamic are doing is denying there is even a problem.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Maybe this is it. I think a lot of people don't know Muslims in real life, so this is a palce to interact with them, whether that means trying to understand more or trying to criticize them or what have you.

I realize the 9/11 anniversary and mosque in NYC have caused a lot of the recent posts, but even aside from that, I think that it comes up more often here than in other venues.

Yeah I don't like that either. I have never actually listened to talk radio. I like to hear some basic news on TV at times if it's not just opinions. But even then, when they stay on one topic only I find it really annoying.

Actually this discusison is playing out in most first world countries, find an international forum and it is being discussed there too.

Why you may ask? The issue is with the massive migration of people to western countries over the last decade or two that share none of our values, culture or way of life. More specifically, have little interest in integrating into the country. Once again, this might be hidden in a country the size of the US but is quite clear - in your face - in significantly smaller countries. Lately, the growing trend of violence and crime within the groups.
