I'm actually surprised by ######'s post because I know that many employers seek out Filipinos for their dedication to their work. Last year, a local company in our city hired a Pinay and they were very happy with her work performance that they decided to hire another Pinay. With two Pinays already under their payroll, this same company added another position last week. I know this sounds discriminatory but the American boss specifically said he wanted Pinay workers.

And I know this for sure because the last Pinay hired was me good.gif

We only have perceptions with which to view the world. Psychology 101.

Projecting your perceptions onto others doesn't mean they share them. Psychology 102.

Chinook's employer also seeks out Filipinos because of their hard work, competence, dedication, good attitude, and loyalty. At least 75% of Chinook's 300 fellow employees are Filipinos.

The older posts made me laugh. I, myself, am guilty of such confusing spoken English. I misuse pronouns he/she, I keep flipping them around. And that is bad because I work in a corporate setting. But not as bad, because I am with a technical team. I only screw it up during small talks, but work stuff is fine.

Prepositions are the hardest, not just for Filipinas, I would think. And give us a pass, English is not our first language but at least our written English is understandable, haha. Try native speakers who can not even spell "believe".

My wife had to go to a telephone service store to talk to me the first time on the telephone. Connection issues, accent differences, and a room full of people talking meant that my wife had trouble understanding a lot that I said. Instead of telling me that she couldn't understand me she kept saying "but of course". I figured out there was a problem when she kept saying this phrase over and over. Now I tease her all the time about it

And these words: receive, embarrass, harass, occasion, occurrence, committed, privilege, cemetery, etcetera, etcetera.... star_smile.gif

When we were dating, my husband e-mailed me to say that I am a good "women". I said I am only one woman. He wrote me those words three times and each time I told him he spelled it wrong and he still doesn't get it. But so far, that is the only mistake I've seen from him. He writes very well, uses correct punctuation and is well read (which what initially attracted me to him).

I still have a lot to learn in terms of pronunciation (not pronOUnciation) but it's not easy. good.gif

Speaking in short cut manner is something that has been a part of pinoy culture.

My husband and I have had few funny moments when I asks him, "have you seen my cell charger?" and whenever I say "I'm "LOW-BATT"

and he would usually correct me for saying it properly to " My battery is low"

So, to fellows who are learning your S.O's culture.. its just natural if we say things in crooked, So its something that the spouse has to learn and adjust.
