Hi Guys,

One thing that I find so cute is the way she replies to some of my questions. My favorite is this one:

Sometimes I say something like:

Me asking Q:"You don't have money to go to movie" ?

Then she says "yes"

--> beware... of that "yes" JR. It is not what you think.

Yes, means ..she does not have money!

Do you have anything you can share??

J, she answered your question properly. You asked "You don't have money for the movie" and she replied "Yes" which is in agreement with your statement.

Now had you asked "Do you have money for the movie" then "No" would have been the appropriate reply.

You need to understand that where English isn't their first language they will take your grammar literally. For you & I the two questions are the same but technically they aren't and she did answer it correctly. I've encountered this with my wife.

As her husband you should help her to understand this and also be understanding of it when you ask her things.

yes i agree with u bob and anna so do i. sometimes its hard for me to understand my fiance some english word makes me think twice as i replied on to him but i usually ask him "what do u mean " if i dont know what he was talking about i couldnt catch him sometimes both of us are helping each other to communicate well and he never put me down when ever i dont understand him we sometimes took it so funny and added to my book of dictionary lol so that nextime i can used that word for a sentence.having a foreign fiance is a bit advantage especially if u really want to be fluent in english.seems he was my walking dictionary

Actually, I agree with 100%. I thought about it a few times myself..she is correct...except that some times some of us are so used to hear the word "no" in that case. I am not making fun of anything..I think I stated I find it cute..

She knows he vs she but she keeps calling her bro 'she ' and her sister 'he'. I just alert her with a smile..and she goes *oopppss*.

My wife actually told me when we first started to date, that she wanted me to correct her English as much as possible. She wants to make sure that when she gets here with me, she will be able to communicate with the masses, and have no communication barriers. She already spoke pretty decent English when we met, but now is as fluent as anyone who has been here for a while. I do know that she will have a hard time translating some things from Tagalog to English, and will ask me for a translation...but when she does that, I have no idea what she is trying to translate...so we play the what does it look like or smell like, or sound like game...Also found that Google is a godsend for most translation problems.
