Hello

My Canadian fiance and I plan to get married in a civil ceremony in California. The San Francisco website states that all we need is a legal photo ID, like a Passport, and a certified copy of divorce which does not apply in our case.

Is this really all there is? We don't need to bring any of the K-1 paperwork we've been working on for months?

Thanks!

Your K1 is what allowed you to cross the border and will allow you to adjust status after you marry. You could have married at any time , that is a different process, but you need the visa to establish residency in the US

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

It's easy! We walked into the County Clerk's office in Oakland, and walked out 20 minutes later with a certified marriage certificate. It's a two step process. In the first step you apply for the marriage license. That takes about 10 minutes. After that, you wait for a JP to perform the marriage. You need two witnesses. You can bring your own, or they will usually provide a couple of employees to fill in.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!
