I would like to include the snail mails and chats as proofs of our relationship. My concern is there are some parts of the chats/mails that sounds too personal (i.e. kinky). Please do not think I am a freak or something LOL. But what if there are some parts of the mail/chats we don't want them to read, what should I do about it? Thanks a lot.

For the record, I don't think you are a freak.

I know how you feel because there are somethings that are said in chats/emails/letters/etc. that are between the couple only and do not need to be read by a third party.

But what if there are some parts of the mail/chats we don't want them to read, what should I do about it? Thanks a lot.

I kind of have the same question when it comes to the chats. As far as emails/letters go, I would simply not use those.

I would suggest a neat line through it with a Sharpie. I, too, did not want our personal conversations (or anything that could be misconstrued) under review. Just showing the dates and the names was sufficient. I just printed out the most suitable chat conversations with timestamps and marked out anything I didnt want shared with strangers.

I also included most of our snail mail envelopes, but not all the contents. I felt like some of the cards and letters were too private. And really, the envelopes with names and postmarks were good enough to establish that aspect of the relationship.

Best of luck on your visa!

I doubt they read it all nor take it too personal. Never be afraid send it all regardless of how kinky the chat was bout..

Just cross it out with a Sharpie. They don't need to see every intimate word to get the idea that you have a relationship. Presumably you have alot of chat logs, so why not just pick a few ordinary conversations over the course of the months you have been together?

And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times

Black out any sensitive portions, and be SURE that you DON'T include ANY correspondence in which you refer to each other as "husband" or "wife"!

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thanks a lot for the responses. I really appreciate them. With regard to the chats logs, I chose the not-so personal ones. I didn't have a hard time choosing from the chats since we chat everyday. But we don't have too many snail mails. I guess we'll just black out the portions that are too intimate. The letters were in English but I would always say "I love you" in Filipino. Do I have to black that out too?

IMO they are looking more for volume of correspondence rather than content.

I would think they are more interested in looking at dates, postmarks, origin of letter, destination of letter, names on the letters and other verifiable information rather than content.

For emails- print out an inbox view. We have over 3,000 facebook messages. I am a green and do not see the point in wasting that many sheets of paper. So we printed about 60 pages of inbox view with a few examples from every month.

I also highly doubt they are giong to sit there and READ everyone of them....

I didnt black out anything heck I figured they are all up in our business might as well make it worth there while you want proof I will give you proof was my attitude. Also not sure if this true for all embassies but some embassied view the blacking out of info is your attempt to hide something I know that has been an issue in the Nigerian embassy not sure if they will look at it that way at your embassy or not just thought I would share that with you.....GOOD LUCK

When I mailed in our I-129F packet, I blacked-out some things from the emails. I could have used different emails, but I chose the ones that I did for specific reasons, so I really wanted to use them. I understand the argument either way (for one, it is pretty good evidence of your legitimate relationship! but, it is also extremely personal). I will probably try to pick out emails with tamer content for our interview that won't require any blacking-out (haha), but I think for the most part the printouts of your sent/received logs are really great evidence as well, and that should not have any really personal information included.

This question made me laugh. Not because I think you're a freak, but because I remember when I was starting to compile evidence of a relationship and looking through emails. It was hard for me to find ones that didn't have anything too personal or inappropriate. "This looks like a good one! ... oh wait, nope. Can't use this." I just blacked it out, or included the boring ones.

We didn't include any emails or chats at all. and was approved with no problems nonetheless. I don't think it's necessary to overload the file with tons of paper.

but then maybe some embassies require different evidence.
