what's the expiration date on the I-94?

The 'k-1 visa expiration date' is meaningless.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

ok - so ...

alas ..

now you must wait until either

--EAD or

--Greencard

in hand.

Sorry.

My fiance got here and we got married! In all the rush of things and moving, honeymoon, etc etc....I forgot to get her a SSN number and now her K-1 has expired and not a usable document for getting a SSN. What can I do now?

K-1s NEVER expire unless you do not enter the USA They are CANCELLED upon entry. The date on the I-94 is the determining factor. If it is within 14 days of the expiration of the I-94 you cannot get an SSN until after she has an EAD or Green card.

If you still have time on the I-94, then file for an SSN in her MAIDEN NAME, just as on her passport and K-1. If she wants to chage her name, do it later after she has a green card in her married name.

The date on the I-94 is Sept 8 - yesterday.

Oh well. Get her SSn after she has a green card or EAD (Employment Authorization Document)

Thanks very much for your help. One more question....what is EAD?

EAD = Employment Authorization Document (your temporary right to work in the United States until Green Card arrives)

N-400:

02/21/2015: N-400 sent via USPS Priority Mail to Phoenix, AZ Lockbox

02/23/2015: N-400 received by USCIS

02/27/2015: Check cashed

03/03/2015: I-797C, Notice of Action received

03/26/2015: Fingerprints done!

08/24/2015: Notice of Action received, Interview letter!

09/28/2015: Interview day, PASSED! Oath Ceremony same day :)

You apply for the SSN as soon as she becomes a permanent resident.

There's no way to get it before, so you better start the AOS ball rolling.

The EAD (employment authorization while GC approval is pending)

will also enable you to get an SSN.

If the K-1 has expired (3 months since her POE) there's not much

chance of the SSN application going forward until the GC or EAD is in hand.
