I hear it both ways, Mozzarella and Moosarella. Which is the Italian way? I like saying it the second way, it sounds less awkward.

The italian way does not pronounce the a at the end. It's like moozarell. If I have heard the correct pronounciation from the Italian ppl around. I am part Italian but no one in my family says much Italian stuff anymore except for rigoata haha.

Got it. I've heard so many variants on that word. And on Ricotta too. Tons of so-called eye-talians around here, as you know.

Yeah, so-called. If you had 1 italian grandparent and all you have left are the hand-waving mannerisms and the rough style, I'm sorry.. you're just a jersey boy/girl.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with an actual italian immigrant in montreal. He pretty much launched into a rant once he learned I was from NJ. Apparently he can't stand NY-area eye-talians cuz they're not really eye-talian, he is. I kept it quiet, it's not my fight, but it was hilarious to listen. I did throw in the occasional anecdote to push him along, of course.

Speaking of real Italians, recently at Dunkin Donuts an Italian man approached us and asked if Suj was Arab. Suj said no, I'm Indian. The guy said ok I thought you might be. Then told us about how he went from Italy to work on a fishing boat in Egypt as a teenager for 6 years. I guess he just felt like telling his Egypt story. At least he was nice. But I was like wow a gen-yoo-ine Eyetalian with accent and all.

I told you about the time this old guy at Target wanted to know if I was Indian, right? I said yeah and he goes into this long story about how he taught a class once and it had an Indian kid in it! I was like OMGNOWAY! And then, out of nowhere, he says, "Amritsar". He said it right but it's the name of a freakin' city so I'm confused. What? What about it? It would be like me walking up to a Chinese guy and saying "SHanghai!".

Yes I remember. I can picture how an old person would say something like that too.

Varanasi.

And why is Obama the only to pronounce it "Pock"?

please - he learned how to pronounce it properly when he was in school in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Seriously. btw - what's the issue, really?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Danno is Muslim hunting.

This type of 'hunt' doesn't diminish his/her google skills, does it? Oh, I hope not !

Danno wonders about the weirdest things and worrying about Obama's pronunciation of Pakistan is definitely in the weird category.

Typical unrepentant Lib...... I ask for a pronunciation clarification ... and she sees"worry" "fear", "Hate" or "Racism".

"Issue"? No issue, I just notice he says it one way... and everyone else says it another.

Kinda the way Bush SR. always used Sad-dum when referring to the leader of Iraq.

No, I said you are weird for worrying about something that petty, worry used in the sense of, who the #### even notices this stuff?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
