Getting MPs involved in the process

Just to say that Julian has heard back from his MP's secretary saying that the matter was expedited within the MP's office, and that they should have a resolution within the next few days. Yay! Nothing yet when I called DOS though today.

And yet, if my MP's office could do nothing about the situation, as you vehemently insist, why on earth would they expedite the request? Surely if he had no pull whatsoever, my MP would have just said 'sorry mate, but you'll have to go through state department for this one.' The fact that they are expediting says volumes. I'm only sorry I didn't try it much earlier in the process.

It's important to listen to the terms they use. Marlea is right. That the issue is being expedited within the MP's office doesn't mean that the US embassy will expedite your case, or even do anything with it aside from check the dates and numbers, given that it's within a normal processing time. The "resolution" referred to likely means that the MP's office expects to have an answer for you--which may just be that you have to sit tight.

With USCIS cases, there are specific criteria for expediting cases, and what other entities can do (MPs, members of congress, etc.) is typically limited to alerting CIS to a situation or, if a case is outside normal processing time, which is determined by CIS, making an inquiry to make sure the case hasn't fallen through the cracks.

From what I know about US immigration, the functionaries at the embassy aren't going to start scrambling to approve a case on a normal timeline, barring an emergency (and the list of what CIS considers an emergency is rather short), no matter what mucky-muck's office is inquiring on his behalf.

We should just all sit back and wait on the letter to be scanned in (Removing personal information of course)from the MP's office stating exactly how they called the State Department and got them to make a change. Until then this whole thread is just a pi$$ing contest of who is right. Quite frankly, I agree with everyone BUT Julian and Melissa, but I say we sit back and wait on the proof. I can't WAIT to see it! Please feel free to SHOW US ALL PROOF that the MP's office has done something relevant to help your perfectly normal case be "bumped".

I joined this site for support, knowledge and insight. I find this threads quite juvenile. I am amazed at how these posts convey rivalry for righteousness and are seemingly posted by mature adults. We all have a common interest. Why go to so much trouble to make yourself stand apart from the whole. Grow up guys. We are all working towards the same goal here. I can see patience in not a virtue of those who participate in this trivial behavior.

So, basically, Julian just admitted that the whole point of all this is to wind us up. Whether he's making it all up or not, he will likely claim that he's right, we are all wrong, the powerful Brits are so much better than us lowly arrogant Americans.

I don't need to see proof of anything. I still think he's full of it, and I don't think the MP's office expedite will have any impact on anything at the Embassy (the expedite is likely because they know they will be able to get an answer quickly, and answer that is just as likely a "sorry, no dice" as a "yes, here's your interview date"), but since he is having such a great time disagreeing with me, he can continue to do so. Not a single thing he has posted or will post will make me change my stance, and apparently not a single thing I say will change his.

Hear hear! It's time for people to stop trampling on others just because they have decided to take a non-traditional approach. When somebody tries something you didn't think of yourself, it's not your cue to bash them into submission.
