No more than you're prejudiced against Israel and obsessed with pandering to Muslim sensitivities.

Oh a lot more. I'm not obsessed with the topic so that its the only thing I cltalk about. No do I link to hate sites and try to dress it up as legitimate discussion.

There's no law against it, unless they decide to enforce a local ordinance about burning trash or creating an "open fire."

Michael Bloomberg* said so.

*There's a shameless plug for a thread that nobody replied to.

This is a prime example of what I pointed out weeks ago.

-When public opinion is against some group, Gov't finds a way to intervene, in this case refusing a burn-permit.

I want to hear Obama stand up for the rights of these people as he did for the GZ Mosque.

I Want to see him investigate why they are being denied a Burn peremit.

So what is to blame for the apparent overreactions by Muslims? You can't address the "problem" without knowing the cause. Are Muslims predisposed to outrage due to their genetic makeups? Does Islam itself encourage blowing things out of proportion (no pun intended)? Is Muslim reaction overreported by the western media? What is the role of media outlets in Muslim countries?

Thanks for the update, D.

I really haven't been following the "burning issue" that closely but when I heard Bloomberg's

reaction I wasn't surprised at all. I suspect there are also no laws against burning crosses,

no matter how much that is also in bad taste.

They may have been denied the permit less from the notion that a "higher authority" ordered it

than from the reasonable assumption that these Bible-thumpers will put themselves in real

danger by making a gesture offensive (but not prohibited) to another religion. They also

don't want to lose any local sheriff's deputies in the melée that may ensue...

I can't argue with that. Dumbing down the population has been the intent of liberalism for a couple of decades. Looks like it worked.

Dumbing down the population is the intent of liberalism? What a stupid thing to say. Please square that with the accusations that liberals dominate higher education and are for the most part out of touch with the working classes and do not represent the 'average' American.

I can't speak for the Indonesians, Afghanis, Iranians or other nationalities that are predominately muslim........but I know Arabs generally have over the top hot tempers regardless of their religion.

50 years ago this nutjob so called christian wouldn't have been given the time of day with a call to symbolically burn qurans as a protest against the atrocities of 9/11. Today, these sorts of ridiculous stories are deemed worthy of national attention. Talk about priorities screwed to hell.

Anyway, my thoughts:

Burning a quran in order to demonstrate one's feelings of outrage provoked by the acts of terrorism of 9/11 is stupid. The quran is not responsible for the atrocities of that day and nor are the majority of those who consider the quran holy (not the book, but the texts themselves).

Provocative symbolic acts designed to antagonise people of a different faith is not christian, period.

Burning a quran is not a sin, nor is it in itself something that should or could be prohibited. If someone wants to burn a book they are free to do so in the US and they can have at it.

We should all learn to ignore stupid ####### like this because it is stupid ####### that should not disrupt is in our normal day to day lives.

The ignorant racist Muslim who is burning flags and chanting death to America that is who is to blame. Is it being reported that this is happening all over the US(burning the quarn), I think not. There is a deep seeded hatered for the US in the middle east and those who harbor these feelings get off on stories like this.

I don't think you understood my question. Why is he burning flags and chanting death to America? Why isn't he shaking his head saying, "gee that's too bad that they're doing that over there in America, that's misguided."?
