So basically people in that country will have to change something else they would have normally done without an issue simply because they have to accomodate muslims.

Did you read the original article all the way to the end?

The western world is slowly turning into a Muslim state, through our own stupidity..

Examples?

You just proved my point. That liberals just dont get it...

What is this f'n thread about. A girl having to redo her photo because it might offend muslims..

So basically people in that country will have to change something else they would have normally done without an issue simply because they have to accomodate muslims. Yet fat chance of someone in a nation such as iran doing the same..

There is a huge difference between accomodating Muslims and having an Islamic state. Don't you think you're exagerrating?

Where's that thread about fallacy again?

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

You have cat ears?

Question: What if you travelled to Europe, or Rome and wanted to go in a GORGEOUS historical church where they request, out of respect, that you cover your shoulders...would you?

I think if you are travelling to someone elses culture, and we've had this convo about language, you should respect that culture...so if I went to a Muslim country, I would try to respect their culture instead of trying to impose MY american culture on them...

Not sure how far I would take it, but Iw ouldnt' blatently ignore their culture...ya know?

Same here. When I was in India I made sure I dressed modest, even though I already do in the US, I was extra cautious in India. It's not just about offending people, but you also will stick out even more than you already do which is not safe for several reasons IMO.

Of course I see nothing wrong with the girl's picture, she's 5. Not sure what to say about the article. :P

i'm not outraged at this PARTICULAR incident, I'm outraged at the general new PC regulations everywhere.

We can't just talk about ppl anymore without being UBER senstive...and then, usually wrong...

ex: Calling a black person AFrican American. Half of them aren't! THey aren't from Africa, they are from all over, yet they get lumped into African Americans bc people are too afraid to just say black...

drives me nuts.

My favorite was when a girl asked me if there were "African Americans" in France.

I was thinking, "wow! Your comment is stupid on SO MANY levels." But I just answered that yes, there were.

"I'm sure there are ppl of african heritage living in France" when in fact there are.

Yes, I do. They're fairly visible in my userpic to the side. I very rarely go out without them, they've been a 'part of me' for years.

I wouldn't cover my shoulders if I didn't feel the need to. If they didn't want to allow me in the building because of it, I would simply move on to another place, if I felt so bothered by it. I'm not big on churches, anyways, especially ones that want me to change who I am or what I look like that day. I've been kicked out of chuches for wearing things they didn't consider appropriate, and that's fine by me, because that shows me that it isn't the kind of place I'd want to be in anyway.

It's not me disrespecting their culture, and I don't feel like I am imposing mine on them. To me, that would be telling them to dress like me wherever I go. I am how I am, they are how they are, and that's fine by me. If you feel its appropriate for you to do so, that's fine too. It's just not something I will do. Me going for a visit anywhere doesn't mean I'm suddenly a part of that culture, it means I am visiting another.

I don't expect people who wear head scarves, or cover their shoulders, or whatever is deemed 'respectful' or 'correct' to take off those things in my city/home/yard/etc. Perhaps my religion thinks it is disrespectful for people to cover their head, but that's just the point, isn't it? They don't share my religion, so they can do what they feel is right for them.

If it's a law of the country, then, clearly, it's a different thing altogether, but covering up to suit someone else is not something I would consider. I did that enough as a teenager being told I was too fat to wear tank tops. If it's a law to cover my shoulders, then I can handle packing all tshirts and no tank tops to avoid going to jail, but chances are I would never visit a place that would require such a law.

because helping the young learn of differences makes one a "pedantic douchebag" but thinking to ourselves that

"wow! Your comment is stupid on SO MANY levels."
is ok because "we're" not really saying it.

i was just going to say...HAHAHAHA and then did you see my florida culture comment...

HAHAHA weird.

I would respect it because it is the local custom. Now yes, that's a church and I'm talking about a country, but the bottom line is a country steeped in tradition & religion which has certain views on women's dress SHOULD be considered when visiting that particular country.

Aboslutely. otherwise your just another obnoxios American imposing YOUR values on someone elses culture.

Fo shizzle!!!

;)

 sorry I couldnt help myself

anyways.. on a more serious note.. I for one do not find the picture offensive. It's a child. I've seen much more offensive clothing than this worn by grown women in Algeria.
