You'll notice I blatantly said it doesn't make it right but it leads to it.

9 hours isn't squat compared to some folks being detained for months for no other crime than that of being muslim or Arab. You don't know what it's like to have your family home demolished because an invading force wants your land. You don't know what it's like to be violently discriminated against. You don't know what it's like to lose innocent members of your family because some cowboy thought they might know something about something they don't.

oh do tell, sis. tell me about someone taking our land. destroying the homes of my ancestors.

We don't know about that experience first hand. None of us today have ever known life before Americans. None of us have witnessed family members we actually knew being killed by the invaders. The native americans also fought back trying to defend their lives and home but they were labeled as savages so that it was no longer inhumane to treat them this way. Seems this is a habit from the very beginning.

Anyway, people today, in other parts of the world, are actually living it. :(

Wow. You get very upset when the plight of your chosen ones is minimized or when something you hold dear is perceived to be devalued. And you just did it to someone else.

Regardless of how long ago it was, those actions and reactions still have impact on humanity as a whole. So do the current ones. Just because you or I or Charles doesn't have a 'first hand' experience with it doesn't mean it can be negated. It still matters to some.

I'm not belittling it or saying it doesn't matter.... I'm just saying that we did not personally experience that so we can't possibly know how it feels or how we would react if it was done directly to us. We hear stories about it happening hundreds of years ago and yes that affects us but we were not there to see it. To use that as a comparison to the oppressed people of today is inaccurate because we were not living it like they currently are. When our ancestors fought back they were also labeled as dirty names and their humanity stripped away to justify killing them and taking their home. We don't revolt about it today because we have not directly experienced it and there is nothing we can do to change it but our ancestors did back then in much the same way as the oppressed people around the world today do.

I'm sorry, I know my thoughts come out jumbled most of the time but I do try to extend and clarify my messy statements. :P

No, but there is such a thing as sympathy. Just because you haven't lived through what I have and vice versa, doesn't mean that we can't relate to one another by virtue of the fact that (ostensibly) have the common human emotion of sympathy.

I'm not asking you to agree. I'm just asking you not to devalue something someone else says because you choose not to relate to it. The actions that occurred throughout history all bring us to this point; the actions you see now will affect the future just as surely as the past has. It is completely valid to look at the issues going on within the ME in the context of 'their' history and in the context of US history (in terms of foreign policy and relations). Why should it be less valid to view US current actions in the context of US history?

Electricity is really just organized lightning.

I'm not talking about sympathising with anyone. Sympathy and understanding are two different things.

It's easy to say I sympathise with somone but it's totally another thing to understand what drove them to behave in a certain manner because you yourself have experienced it. I hope you get my point. (F)

As a student of American history with an emphasis on American Indian history, I don't remember the Blackfoot, Sioux, Shoshone, Cherokee, or any of the other nations blowing themselves up and maybe taking 2 or 3 people with them. While the whites did horrible things to them (small pox laden blankets, anyone?), the various tribes fought with honour. I don't recall ever reading about a suicide Apache attack.

The Nations fought for a valiant and justifiable reason....to protect their lands against takeover from the whites. The terrorists blow themselves up because they don't like US policy. I don't like sharia, but I'm not about to blow myself up over it. What the hell good would that do?

About as much good as the terrorists are doing now. They thought they were abused and discriminated against before? I hope they realize that THEY are the ones who turned every American eye toward them with hatred. Before 9/11, I had no opinion about the middle east at all. Now I do. Thanks to the "terrorists".

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

I do not know what to tell you, you just do not get it. Please can you stop for one moment going back in time? I wish I had days to sit and speak with you but we do not have that luxury. No land belongs to no one! What ever people are there now there were others before them. We can go from case to case one by one and you will always find problems everywhere.

But I see on Television when American are capture and/or killed and U.S. Embassy’s blow-up, or military ships blow-up, the Muslims in the streets burning American Flags and figures of our U.S. President or military. I see joy, cheering, happiness, laughter, etc and not from a small group but from thousands of Muslim people in different cites and different countries in the Middle East.

In the U.S. we do a lot of things wrong and we are not perfect, even though we try but we are very far from it. You do not see the New Yorkers rallying in the streets when a terrorist is killed or capture. The Californians are not burning Flags from the Middle East. The Floridian are not rallying and crying “Dead to the Muslims”. Are there people in the U.S. that are happy of course!

All I see is these terrorists state that they want all infidels out of their “Holy Land”. I ask you why does the “Holy Land only belong to the Muslims only? Then they want all Jewish people out of Israel and they “will not stop killing Jewish people. Then they want all American killed “Jihad”.

They have not stated this but I bet to venture that after all the Americans are dead they will want some other people, religions and or culture gone also. All you ever hear from them “Jihad” and death to all who are not Muslim. And a lot of the moderate Muslims are harboring them in different parts of the world.

I can tell you one thing that if some Floridians, Catholics or any other groups wanted to hide in Miami and try to attack, hurt, bomb, etc the U.S. I would not let them hide nor I would let them have shelter in Miami. I would go after them or I would report it to the correct authorities so that they would be eradicated.

I hope I have explained some of these issues so that you could understand how I think and maybe others.

I agree 100%! I honestly could not agree more! And I have never said it's right what they do. However, they were oppressed for many years before 9/11 and no one hardly knew about it. Now everyone knows.

Also, sharia is not being forced down your throat in your home ;) Muslim run governments are not invading and occupying western countries with the mission of wiping out democracy and changing life as we know it. Also, most people there don't agree with terrorism either even though they are living right next door and suffering the same problems as the terrorist.

Anyway, they are not doing it for religious reasons but that's what it's labeled and everyone keeps blabbing about Islam and muslims when that's really not the point at all.

Peter, I am not going back in time... Palestinian homes are being demolished now to make room for the zionist settlers... Lebanon was demolished last week, is that history?

I don't agree with terrorism but I can understand why, when the US always supports anyone anti-Arab/muslim, they cheer in the streets.

Muslims do not want the jews out of Israel... they want Israel out of Palestine and Lebanon! They want Israel to stop trying to expand it's borders and invading it's neighbors.

Wow, I do not know where you get your sources. Israel is almost always giving land up that in took when it kick-a$$ on the seven day war and they do not have to give it up, they have been doing it to try and stop the terrorist. But with terrorists one can not negotiate!

I am sure many who are not happy with Israel would also say they are occupying Palestine already, the country of Israel being where Palestine should be. Many Muslims do not want them to exist as a nation at all.

Justification for them cheering on the streets is crazy. Would Americans be justified to burn flags of Arab countries or say death to Islam because of 9/11? Don't think so. Yeah some people may do that but no one justifies it. It's called hatred usually.

Timeline

Remember the Alamo??
