Hello,

Does anyone know how insurance works for a K1 visa holder? If the person comes to the US and waits the 3 months allowed before getting married, can she/he get insurance for the period?

From some insurance carriers, yes- it also depends which state you live in. In Arkansas, Blue Cross Blue Shield has short term insurance- anything from 30 to 180 days- which takes anyone who is legally in the USA- you just send a copy of your visa with the cheque for the fee.

Thanks, I'll check with some local insurance companies.

Hi all, bit of a bump as I didn't want to start a new thread. I'm wanting to play it safe when I move to the US, fiancée has insurance with her work that will cover me once we're married, but she lives 3 floors up with no lift, and I don't want to find myself falling down the stairs and end up a few grand in the hole for coverage.

I'm looking at basic emergency health insurance coverage from the Post Office in the UK, it would be £190 for up to 66 days, which ought to cover the time between my arrival and our marriage being accepted by her employer. Does anyone know of any cheap alternatives, either from UK or US-based providers?

Thanks

Be careful about UK based coverage, it sounds like you are talking about travel insurance- if you make a claim and they find out you are there on a K1 intending to stay, it may void your coverage.
