The only fee you pay to U.S. Department of Homeland Security is $1,010: $930 for your adjustment of status and $80 for the biometrics fee. That's it.

The I-864 Affidavit of Support does not need to be notarized, nor does it require a filing fee.

Fire your lawyer. He obviously doesn't know what he's doing. NOT a rare thing with some immigration lawyers. :bonk:

NO, THE AOS AFFIDVIT SUPP IS FREE. THE AFFIDVIT SUPP FOR BRING PARENT HERE TO THE USA IS NOT, IT COSTS 70.00, WHICH IS THE NEXT STEP AFTER PAYING GETTING THAT PARENT APPROVED FOR THEIR I130. FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU WANT TO BRING YOUR MOM HERE YOU MUST FIRST FILL I-130 ,ONCE SHE GET APPROVED THEN YOU FILED THE AFFIDIVIT ON TRAVEL.STATE.GOV WHICH COST 70.00 AND THE PAYMENT IS MADE ONLINE NOT BY CHECK OR MONEY ORDER WITH AN ANOTHER APPLICATION THAT COST 404.

IF YOU ARE APPLYING TO BRING YOUR PARENT TO LEAVE IN THE USA WITH A GREEN CARD THEN YOUR LAWYER IS RIGHT, OTHERWISE HE IS WRONG.

ya, that I-864 is used in several ways, several different things.

when sent in to NVC, for a CR-1/IR-1/CR-2/IR-2/IR-5 visa, it's 88 bucks, but the visa interview is not in USA.

when sent in as part of an 'adjustment of status' package, with an I-485 - there is no filing fee at all.

i'd run, not walk, away from that lawyer. Seriously.

If they messed up on this 'little' thing - what 'big' thing will they mess up on, later?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Perfect example of why lawyers are not needed and shouldn't be used for 95% of visa cases. They are blatantly ignorant and worthless.

I'm not familiar with your case or why you opted to go with a lawyer, but it sounds to me like you would have been better off going at it on your own. Right now you're paying someone for all the wrong info. :(

No $70 fee is required, like everyone else said. Should just be one check for $1010 made out to the United States Department of Homeland Security, unless you've got children you need to file for as well.

Good luck, and I'm sorry you're having a rough time with your d-bag of a lawyer.

(which I am going to review every single step of the way) and if I have any more questions I will be posting here, because you guys have given me all the right information.

thank you, thank you, thank you,
