Hello all!

My husband (Ivorian) and I (USC) have just found out that we are going have our first baby! YAY! :). We are currently living overseas in West Africa. We have been living here for two years together and got married here. We have never been to the States together. We have everything here in West Africa a home together, a car, our work (I permanently work here as a teacher at the American School). Fortunately I teach all the Embassy children, however, I don't know if that is any help.

Well anyways, we want to go to the US to have our first child. We just want to give birth there and come back. Because this is where our life is and we don't plan on or want to move to the US anytime soon. I was wondering which visa could my husband apply for just to visit and help me fly to the US for the delivery and then together as a family come back together with the new baby! :)

I was told because we do not want to reside in the US that he should apply for a tourist visa. Like I said, we have everything here. All I have in the US is my family but I moved everything here when I got married. If we are planning on doing the tourist visa, we need to show proof of return. So I thought that these would be good proofs:

-house

-car (registered by us and in our names)

-careers

-official letters from work stating vacation time

-university school loan (he still needs to pay his school in order to receive his degree and he can only pay it here)

-showing that he doesn't have any ties to the US such as family/income. P.S. He has never met my family.

-the fact that it is our first child and we want to start our family off right and together.

-West African Bank accounts with about $10,000 USD

That's just what I thought of right now. Any other ideas would be helpful! :)

I cannot give birth without my husband and because of the language barrier I would much rather give birth with my Dr. in the US.

thanks!

They might be wondering how you will pay the medical costs.

Fortunately we have medical insurance that covers me and the baby here and in the US.

Don't mention to the Consulate/Embassy the baby part, if you are an US Citizen, make sure you make a letter and include either a copy of your passport or birth certificate with his application as well as a copy of your Marriage Certificate plus all the things you point out you guys have should be sufficient for him to get a visa...

If you are an US Citizen but you want to come to the US for your child to have the US Nationality, check with your embassy because there is a way that you can have the baby over there (or anywhere in the world) and claim the baby as a born from a US Citizen with the Embassy and they will give him the corresponding US Citizenship (i think you have up to 30 days to claim the right, not really remember it)... as I said, check of that possibility with the Embassy... then, double check it...

Stupid question: why do you want to have your child in the USA?

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

help me fly to the US for the delivery

most airlines have restrictions on 'which month of pregnancy' is not allowed to fly.

You should check that, prior to making any further plans.
