Expired Green card / New Job

I send my I-90 today because I realized that my green card just expired last month. However, I will be getting new job pretty soon (3 weeks). With expired green card chances are that I might not get hired, right? I know it takes up to a year for a green card to arrive. Is it possible to have some sort of proof for my future employer that I will be getting new green card in the future? Thanks.

much depends on what yer current green card IS (what type, 2 year or 10 year)

and the type of paperwork you must file to get a new one.

I thought an I-90 was for replacing a lost or stolen card, not to issue a NEW one with NEW expiration date?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Hi Darnell,

From VJ Guide How to Renew your Green Card

How to Apply To Renew a Green Card

If you are a permanent resident whose 10-year Form I-551 has expired or will expire within the next 6 months, you may renew your green card by filing a Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card.

So, if you don't apply for Citizenship and want to renew 10 year card, you need to file I-90 ;) (I think I will do it 10 year later :))

To OP, sorry it's not an answer to your question...

Its 10 year one.

OP, you don't need to use your green card to show proof you're authorized to work in the US - driver's license and SSN are enough. You still should get a new GC for yourself.

This is true if you have a unrestricted ss card.

This is true if you have a unrestricted ss card.

I'd hope OP has updated his status with SSA once he got his first green card and has a regular SS card.

What status do I gotta update? I do have regular SS card and Driver's license. I came to this country when I was. Thanks.

If you had the SS card with the "valid for work only with DHS authorization" written on it, you'd update it to remove that writing - showing your green card to SS people is enough. Since you already have the regular SS card, you're all set.
