I can't seem to go anywhere in California and get a decent cup of tea and slice of cake! Why do they give you a luke warm pot of water and put the teabag on the side?!

Surely somebody must have been to England from America!

Yeah, never order tea when you're out and about. Its always Lipton Tea which is weak crp! I can actually by tetley and PG Tips in my local supermarket so at home I always get a good cuppa. Twinings isn't bad if you can find that, serves in a pinch.

U had the same problem, but then found that our local luxury gas station (a White Oaks, if you have them there) sells Barry's tea, so now I am happy. Another tip is to go to an authentic Indian store (dot, not feather), they tend to have good, strong tea.

I don't how much tea bags from state to state is but in South Carolina it costs me over $4 for 40 PG Tips. Pisses me off that UK food is either wayyy expensive or hard to get.

I'm dying for decent black pudding.

Would definitely be stuffing every free corner and crevice of my luggage with teabags when I'm heading out there.! I had learnt that on my previous visits, always bring my Barry's or Lyons tea with me!

You lot aren't the only ones. Many of us Canadians have English or Scottish parents so we feel your pain! The whole tea bag in water thing is a scary site.

I use PG Tips. Luckily I can at least get that to make myself a brew!

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

There is an authentic Indian shop 3 minutes away from us - I LOVE it. They sell all kinds of random chocolates and sweets like Cadbury's fruit and nut, aero, time out and Polos (not that IS random). I don't drink tea (shock, horror) so can't say I've looked for it but I thought I was dreaming when I saw the sweets and they were all made in the UK - unlike the Cadbury's you see in Walmart which is very thin and made somewhere like Chicago.

This store is in a local mall by me. They give out free tea that tastes delicious to me but I am not a daily drinker so can't tell the difference much. They seem to have a good collection and you can make online orders which leads me to believe that it would be extremely easy to find a place in UK that also does online ordering....

the cheapest place I saw for pg tips was at an authentic indian grocer.

if you do 'loose tea' they have wide selection and the infuser gear to use.

I suggest you 'go ethnic' and soon.

Wegmans has the best selection, though its not cheap. There's 2 English/Irish shops around us so we go there often to stock up, mostly on sweets and real heinz baked beans. The cadbury's that they have in the grocery stores, here at least, are made by Hershey. Which is 10 min away from me, not across the waters!

It addition to Teavana there's also Adagio (who sell kettles that can boil water at lower temperatures for green tea) and the Red Blossom Tea Co.

I've switched to loose-leaf and it's really not too much hassle. However, I admit that this isn't the type of tea david b is seeking!
