My fiance went to request his vaccination records and when his GP pulled his chart his sheet was blank. They told him to request it from a specific hospital that might have them, but when he phoned them they said that they don't keep records past 25 years (my fiance is 35). I know he does not need to have his records technically until he applies for adjustment of status, but nonetheless this will be an issue eventually. Has this ever happened to anyone before? Will he need to be re-vaccinated?

I found this on the US Embassy London site:

"If you do not have a vaccination record, the panel physician will work with you to determine which vaccinations you may need to meet the requirement." So I suppose this does happen frequently?

If I may add to this question, can someone shed some light on how invasive this medical exam actually is? My fiance is a bit worried he'll be probed like an extra terrestrial...

He will only need the ones that are age-appropriate for him. If his doctor doesn't have records at all for him receiving any vaccinations, then he can check this link and have his GP go over the list with him to see what is age-appropriate for him now. This will cut down on what he might need to get re-jabbed for.

Hope this helps!

Yes, get your fiance to get the vaccinations BEFORE he comes to the US (with his GP to save money, they should be free). If he has an up-to-date medical chart there's a chance that you won't need to visit the civil surgeon as many people have sent their UK vac chart in for AOS and got through with no RFE. That will save you some money too. If you wait until AOS in the US he'll have to have them done here, wait for the MMR booster and you'll have to pay a significant fee for the privilege.

All he needs are age appropriate vaccinations, and for the average adult (18-64) are: MMR and Tdap and Varicella, which isn't available in the UK, but if he's had chicken pox, then he's got "Varicella History" or "VH" And that's it. Have him get those two shots, and bring the records to the medical. As above, getting them before the visa medical makes things SO MUCH EASIER down the line, so even if it's a bit difficult to get the shots, it's worth some hassle to get them done.
