Dear All,

I just got married to a U.S. citizen and I am an employee in an international organization. From what I have read online it seems that i need to fill out I-765 and I-485. Are there any other forms I need to fill out apart from those two. Also, do you know how long the process is before i can get my employment authorization card.

Many thanks in advance for any of your kind suggestions. :D

What visa do you have? You also need to fill out I-130, I-693. Its gonna cost upwards of $1500. Generally takes about over 2 months to get EAD and 3 months or so for the green card.

if you are employee in an international organization and are IN the USA -

then it's a 'standard' AOS package - see http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide2

If you are NOT in the USA - follow this guide -> http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1

I was looking for a job for my husband in an international organization (with offices in US), and they said that Green Card holders usually have to relinquish their green cards to work for them, and instead obtain a special visa (G-4) I beleive. I was looking for US-based jobs, but maybe they were indicating for non-US-soil jobs by mistake... not sure...

Maybe someone with more knowledge can add some insight; I was confused about this.

(and sorry, I don't mean to add confusion to this thread!)

AOS for my husband

5/23/12: Sent out package

Hi,

From what I know, you dont have to relinquish your green card if you dont want to. There are plenty of people with Green Card who work with International organizations. The only thing i dont know is if they got their green cards before or after they joined the organization. As for me I am on a G-4 visa (International employee visa) at the moment but am planning to get a green card. I have to give up my G-4 in order to obtain the green card. One of the main reasons international organizations do not want people with green card is because many of them require their employees to work in other countries, which is a problem if you have a green card as it requires you to stay within the U.S. for a certain period of time in a year. He might want to find out from the particular international organization if they wish to recruit him with the green card and he could also explain that he will get his citizenship soon and therefore the green card wouldnt be an issue. My suggestion would be for him to get a job with a U.S. based organization, which also deals internationally instead of an international organization till the time he gets his citizenship and then he can apply to any organization. Hope this helps.

IIRC, it's part of the I-485 requirements, so yes, you'll need to handle that I-693 prior to 'entire application' submittal.

Ahh cool, thanks. I wonder why they say that so loudly on the job desciption... scared me off.

Anyway, to answer your question about the medical... yes, you do that before and send it in with the whole AOS package. You can locate a designated civil surgeon on the uscis website. The doctor will fill out the form and give you a sealed envelope. DO NOT OPEN the envelope. Just send it in as you get it (might want to ask for a copy for your records before he/she seals it). Good luck!
