My wife came to United States in K1 Visa and we applied SSN within 3 weeks of her Entry. We got married the 2nd month after entry and we applied for AOS/EAD/AP right before I-94 would expire.

we didn't get the SSN yet so we went to the SSN office in MD and they said that the file was closed because her I-94 expired a week ago now and we can't apply for ssn till she gets the green card.

Does this make sense?

I don't find any reason why they couldn't issue the SSN in the first 2months when her IAD was valid.

can anybody suggest the next move we need to make?

Thank you

From what I have seen its very common for them to do that. To just let the SSN application sit untill the I-94 expires. When we applied for mine we called every few days for updates so they wouldnt be allowed to let it just expire. Sorry they did this to you guys.

You can apply for the SSN again when you get the EAD card, if you dont get an EAD card then you have to wait till you get the green card.

yup, sorry -

it smells like you 'applied to soon' for an SSN, either

--clerk not know about SAVE database or

--clerk not FIND her in SAVE database in VISA name

and then

somehow, kicked off a DHS/USCIS electronic verification request, which , in itself, can be fast to verify, is usually slow on the handover and intake processing by any SSA employee (sorry, most are dolts, and as such, slow).

So now, you must wait for the next status - which will be the first of

--EAD card

--Green Card

good luck !

Ours did the same thing. I feel like I have been dealing with morons over there since May. My husband just went to the SSN with his EAD and they said that they couldn't do anything because his visa was expired. So needless to say, I will have to go tomorrow (again) and take time off work (again) to tell these digbats that they need to look at his EAD and give him a SSN. He had applied for one about a month after we were married while still on the K-1 (he was in the system then as well) and they "processed" it after me having to tell them what to do. We, of course, never received his card and called several times and then they said, oops you have to go back tothe field office and have them reprocess it. Like the process isn't stressful enough to get our loved ones over here, get married, and then do more paperwork to keep them here; now we have to put up with people who can't even figure out how to do their jobs correctly. You will probably have to do what I am doing and go back with the EAD and the Homeland Security receipts and hopefully they will issue the SSN. Good luck!

Is EAD a valid proof for applying SSN again? I know I can apply with a green card, but is EAD enough to apply? Has anybody done this before with valid EAD and expired I-94? Thank you.

EAD is enough.
