I am wondering if I the USC go from a class 5 license in Canada to a class 1 if it will be transferable when I move back to the US as I already had the equivalent of about a class 4 there once upon a time. Also will my husbands CDL license be able to be transfered from a class 2 license to a class B? The reason I am asking yall is bc I have called the DMV in my state and gotten three different answers all three times Ive called.

The first time I was told we would need to retake the drivers and written test and would then be awarded our new licenses. The second time I called I was informed that we would NOT have to take any test again and we could just come in and transfer the license and we would get to keep all of our endorsements (ie airbrakes, etc). The third time I called I was told no tests, just swap out the license but that our endorsements would not transfer. As you can see quite confusing, and as VJ memebers generally have the know how on just about everything I would really like some advice:) thanks.

This may be no help at all for you guys but I had a G2 canadian license and they transfered it to a full license in USA for me and told me I could travel back to canada before my canadian license expires and actually take the test there and get a full G license because my canadian G2 is still valid till 2013.

All I had to do was take the question part of the test, answer 20 of 25 questions right and they would transfer my license to full american license. State of NE.

I think it varies from state to state.

In MA, and I know this as I got the same answer 3 different times and it's on their website.

You don't have to take any tests. Don't know about endorsements. Regular driver's license trasfers no tests. If you have a Quebec one, you have to have it translated by a private langugage school or a gov't school in the state of MA and bring a copy of your driving records not older than 30 days and they do the transfer you just have to take the eye test there.

I really think it varies from state to state
