I've been in the US since 1990 with a series of visas ranging from F-1 to TC then TN then married and adjusted from TN to LPR. I have been a LPR for over 12 years and would like to apply for US Citizenship. How much does USCIS scrutinize prior visas? Are all F-1, TC, TN applications and paperwork from the early 1990's scanned and are these investigated to see if they were appropriate visas issued at the time? Criteris for some visas change from year to year and are sometimes issued at the discretion of the POE officer. TC visas were new in 1990 and were unfamiliar to many INS officers at the time. There may have been an irregularity of one of the TC visas issued to me in 1991. The Officer at the POE issued it to me anyways from the wrong letter from my employer.

Nothing was said about this from my interview for green card in 1998. But now that I am applying for N-400 does USCIC go back and look at every visa in my visa history to ensure they were lawful at the time? or do they just go on your recent 5-10 year history from application?

When you became a LPR, twelve years ago, your prior immigration history was scrutinized and any adverse circumstances would have been taken into consideration before granting you said status of a lawful permanent resident.

At the naturalization stage, USCIS is primarily looking at the time from becoming a LPR to the present. The word "fraud" gives me goosebumps, but I doubt that digging deep into F-1, TC, and TN files is part of the standard routine when adjudicating an application for naturalization.

Of course, you are required to answer the 100 questions of the N-400 application truthfully and if any of your answers indicate a potential problem, it would certainly trigger digging deeper into the wound.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Just Bob is correct - you basically did not exist to USCIS prior to your LPR status... all problems should've came up during AOS and ROC.... but probably during the 90's there was no ROC....
