So from reading about the process I understand that the consulate will send my fiancé a packet when the application is approved but there is no regular postal service where he lives in Ecuador, his address, the address I use on the forms is NOT a mailing address so where can they send this packet to?

Thanks for the info!

I'm not sure how it works in Ecuador but in England when they send packet 3 you don't actually really need it. A list of all the forms you need and links to download them are all online and you can call the embassy to get the new case #. Some people never actually end up getting packet 3 from the London consulate and it works out just fine. Perhaps you should try reposting this in your regional forum and/or checking out your country portal. Someone there might have some better advice for you.

Good luck! :star:

Well I'm glad I could relieve some of your anxiety. Just to be certain I went and checked out the Ecuador Embassy Info page. I copy/pasted this information:

UPDATED June 8, 2009: The packet 4 takes months to arrive in the mail, it´s ridiculous. So you should email the consulate as soon as it´s reasonable (based on the date it left the NVC) and they should send an email saying you can download Packet 4 and present the email rather than wait for the letter in the mail. That way your process will go 1-2 months faster!

So it sounds like you're not the only one who is/was worried about the mail service there and according to this you won't need the physical packet in the mail anyway. :)

Ha, I already downloaded packet 4 from the consulate website...I guess I got a little ahead of myself! I left the Spanish version with my fiance so he would know what he needs to start getting, simple things like getting a copy of your birth certificate tend to take a lot longer than they should in Ecuador. I'm just about ready to send in the I-129F packet, my eyes are sort of crossed from looking over these papers all day... thanks so much for your help.

Oh wow! You sound super prepared! Sounds like you don't even need our help at all! :P Congrats on sending your packet soon! It's an exciting step! :)
We don't know if she's super-prepared, and if she's dealing with Guayaquil, she'll need every bit of our help. Michelle, have you read & absorbed the entire thread "US Consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador" in the Embassy/Consulate thread? Have you read & absorbed the WORST "Embassy Reviews" (link atop this page) for Guayaquil? Have you read & absorbed the "Embassy Info" (link atop this page) for Guayaquil? Have you loaded your I-129F petition with exhaustive "proof of bona fide relationship" evidence? Have you budgeted otherwise-untouchable funds to be present at least 24 hours before your fiance's consular interview, whenever that might be? If you can't answer these questions, then you're not prepared.

It's far too early to be thinking about Packet 4 if the I-129F petition hasn't been filed yet. The contents of Packet 4 could change between now and interview time. Download the packet when you receive the NOA2 from USCIS.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I'm not super prepared, I downloaded the packet because I was directed to the consulate website by an embassy staff member and I had no idea what the process was. It was only until a friend also engaged to an Ecuadorian directed me to this site that I began to fully understand the steps of getting this visa. I'm hoping that the fact that I lived in Ecuador for a year and a half as a Peace Corps volunteer will help the process somewhat. I do have tons of proof of our relationship but as far as the financials I need my father to co-sponsor the visa. What do they ask for in terms of supporting evidence of financial stability? If you've dealt with Guayaquil and gotten a visa then I need all the advice you can give me.

Glad that you made it here before you filed, M. Unlike most other consulates, GYQ doesn't seem to focus on financials at all, but they'll look for any excuse whatsoever to refuse visas on the basis of "no bona fide relationship." You're intelligent and refreshingly literate, and you'll be able to pick up quite well what's needed, after you read the horror stories of those of us who went before. Document the dickens out of your relationship and include it in the I-129F filing. USCIS won't care about the relationship evidence as long as you prove that you saw your fiance within the last 2 years. However, the consulate is well-known for refusing to accept evidence that's brought to visa interviews and then claiming that "insufficient evidence was brought." Your including the relationship evidence in the USCIS petition filing will ensure that the consulate cannot deny its submission or existence.

Go ahead and read the Embassy Info and the Embassy Reviews (links atop every VJ page), and I'll bump the infamous "U.S. Consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador" thread within the Embassy/Consulate forum here. We're behind you and we're here for you, si man. :)
