Hey guys,

I need a quick and accurate response. Who reviews the Affidavit of Support, is it the NVC or the Consular at the Jamaican Embassy?

Father (US Citizen, not by birth) files for unmarried daughter over the age of 21 years.

Thanks.

so you have an upcomming interview..? What's the rush..? because at this point you would have already submitted the information to NVC... and you perhaps could take the updated information to the interview but you would be reshduled any how and asked to brings the requeste information back.. that's so that to ALLOW a fair case review and allowing the applicants a good amount of time to gather the necessaries.

The NVC

Receives & Review
the AOS and check for errors/missing documents... if none found then it is forwarded to the KIN Office for
Review/Acceptance
. That is regardless of the filing category...!

Hope this information helps ...

I am clueless as to what you are talking about. I simply asked if the AOS is reviewed by the NVC or the Consular at the Jamaican Embassy. I can't comprehend your explanation, maybe I'm slow. You took my question and turned it into a different conversation.

Mandyt your reply was kinder funny, the NVC is the one who reviews the Affidavit of Support, after they review it and other documents like your police record etc, they then forward it to the consulate which in your cause would be in KINGSTON, ok....

The answer is both with the Consular Officer at the embassy/consulate making the ultimate decision.

In the end the consular in Jamaica will have to review the AOS and from there will tell you if you are approved or not. The NVC just make a visa available for you. The consular in Jamaica makes the ultimate decision on whether or not you can migrate to the states. If I were you, I would ask you father what was his income for 2009 and how many people are in his household, then you need to look up the poverty guidelines for 2009 and find how many he has in his household including himself and you and compare it to his income. If he is below, you will need a co-sponsor. If he is above then you are good to go. Do the research now, before you go to your interview and get blue slipped because he does not make enough and you will need a co-sponsor. Good Luck!!!

I re-read your post and got the answer. Thanks. I just don't want to be blue slipped for anything. It is important who looks at the AOS because if the NVC is the ultimate place where the decision is made that yes the AOS is good to go then I need not worry about a Consular in Jamaica saying that I need a co-sponsor. That is why my question is important to me. Thanks.

Sasha I am not asking if I will be approved or not by the Consular in Jamaica, what I was asking is about the AOS, if the NVC is the one that gives the green light that yes the AOS is good, no con-sponsor needed or is it the Consular in Jamaica who makes the decision.

Thanks.

I am not quite sure of what the answer was that you got on this question, but NVC can make a decision regarding the AOS, and then the Consular can over turn it. SO, with that being said the Consular has the final say so. This is regarding any decsions that are being made regarding the immigation petition, the Consular issues the visa, not NVC nor USCIS.

you are right......my brother had his interview today and even though my dad sent the AOS to the Nvc and everything was ok. The consular officer denied his approval because they said he needed a co-sponsor! with that said the NVC might give the green light but after going to the embassy things might change like in my brothers case.

Good luck to you though
