What happened to the Bears and Saints today?

We just saw the Bears game tonight. We recorded it on the DVR since we were skiing in Wisconsin today.

Of course it's disappointing that they lost, but it was a meaningless game (other than keeping the hated Packers out of the playoffs) and they did play fairly well, other than the last interception thrown by Cutler. I still like our chances.

They scored 3 points today and 7 against NE.  Do you think that will bear Atlanta or NO?

Then tell me about the 3 points the Bears scored yesterday and the 7 they scored against NE. Will that be enough to beat Atlanta or New Orleans?

Well, you are being a smartass and so I really shouldn't even bother answering you. But there's a simple answer to your question. Yes.

And here's some data to back it up.

If you look at overall team offense, and points scored, the Bears do not shape up well this year. We were 21st in the NFL with only 334 points total offense (20.9 avg per game):

1. New England Patriots 518 32.4

5. Atlanta Falcons 414 25.9

11. New Orleans Saints 384 24.0

21. Chicago Bears 334 20.9

However, if you look at team defense, we did just fine, we were 4th in the NFL and ahead of Falcons, Saints and Patriots. We allowed only 286 total points (17.9 per game avg).

4. Chicago Bears 286 17.9

5. Atlanta Falcons 288 18.0

7. New Orleans Saints 307 19.2

8. New England Patriots 313 19.6

Last I checked, Win/Loss is decided by Points scored being larger than Points Against. We have the Defense to keep that ratio acceptable and our 11-5 record proves that.

Look, we've been an underdog all year. No one believed we have a credible team, not least many Chicagoans even now that we're sitting on top of our division with 11-5 records. That's fine, we like being underdogs.

Besides, we're hardly the laughingstock of this year's post season. That honor belongs to the Seahawks.

If you had put your statistics and data into some type or chart or graph, I might have found it to be credible. Obviously you are not from Australia. But I do understand and sympathize since everyone can't live in MA.

I think the NFL should be ashamed of having a 7-9 division winner. That is a joke. I bet NO rips Seattle a new one.

Wow! For most of the season, the Pats defence was slightly South of really awful, ranking 28th (IIRC) at the time they played the Bears. To make 8th by the end of the regular season should scare the pants off anyone. For a very young group of players, they seem to be gelling as a unit at just the right time.

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

I wonder if there's some way the Bills can transfer to the NFC West. rofl.gif

That's what is so amazing about the team this year. They went 14-2 with a defense that gave up a ton of yardage, yet slaughtered a few good teams.

They won 12 other games besides the Bills.

That doesn't count. The Pats are firing on all cylinders right now. I don't see any AFC team with the defence to stop them. I thought maybe the Chiefs or Ravens but I'm not sure if anyone can slow down Tom Brady right now.
