hi,

im not sure if i am right on this...but... CR1 has to remove conditions within two years, whereas IR1 its instantly at port of entry?? not sure tho

yes, since january...but, it actually goes way back to mid 2009  because when my husband visited me in the UK in jan this year i was laid up with a poorley back...:o

hes over here again in jan 11 and we are currently plotting how we can get rid of my mother (who is living with me at the moment) for that week

At the time of your interview , if you and spouse are already married for 2 or more years, then they give you a IR1 aka greencard. It will be valid for 10 years. After 10 years you must get a new greencard, no interview or nothing, just apply for new greencard because they figure everyones appearence will change over the 10 years and just want to upgrade ur picture on it, same like drivers license. Now if you have NOT been married for 2 years at time of your interview, then u get a CR-1, that is same greencard , same rights and privlages, but only it expires in 2 years from issue. You have to apply to remove the condition. CR=conditional relative. This is to cut down on marriage fraud, thats why they came up with this CR thing. So like you apply to remove the conditional and if everything checks out , for example you are still married and living together etc etc etc then they will give you a new 10 year greencard. They might call you in for another interview, sometimes they dont. Like example, if you have kids born during that 2 years and wen you send in to remove the condition u give them a copy of the baby's birth certificate, then they might not even call you in, u will just get the new greencard in mail.

Truebrit,

Holy sheepshit since '09! That is tough. After so many months, better to have mom out of the neighborhood if you are wanting to be discrete hehehe! Last visit with my wife was about 10 weeks of bliss! But for such a long stay, a hotel was financially out of reach so we stayed in the family apartment. Geez, RT airfare is 1.5 -2K USD and have made 4 trips over there in the last 2 years. Anyway, get along great with her(my other) family and i am as their natural son. Still, it is pretty cozy sharing the apartment with the folks and sister. Mom and Dad have their room and sis shares ours with us and our little boy. Everyone is very respectful of privacy though and discreet  .They obviously expect us to behave as any newlyweds. We do try to limit playtime  to when everyone else is sleeping as well but there are obviously no secrets in such a small apartment. Hey, You could get Mom an MP3 player loaded with her favorite tunes or audio books!.............just a thought :D

Most of the time it has something to do with the other parent, like proof of consent for the child to leave his/her country on an immigrant visa.

Thanks BabaLu, not sure what other proof we can provide, her father has passed away over two years ago and we included the death certificate, would they expect her to take my husband's last name? that is really the only thing that is different.

Oh her name is different, hmmm, you know it could be anything really , but its probably something simple to fix so don't worry ok. Just wait to get the request and just comply. Meanwhile continue on with your case, don't stop and wait til her's is fixed. Even if you have your case complete, that doesn't mean you have to leave her. Atleast have yours done.

Thanks for your advice, really appreciated and has helped calm me a little, wasn't sure whether to hold my petition back until we were together, but you are right, better to get it completed,
