hi everyone,

My father went for his greencard interview couple of days ago at the embassy in Abu Dhabi. He was handed a blue 221(g) sheet in addition to a white piece of paper, which states that his case needs further administrative processing. Does anyone know what that means? from what I gather it is security clearance, but is that done for everybody?

The consular officer told him to check the embassy's website every week, and appear as soon as his number is there. Does any one have similar experience?

Please help :(

Thank You

sam,

All K and immigrant visa applicanst are subject to numerous security checks - citizens of Russia, China, and a number of middle eastern countries more than others. I don't know if the UAE is on the list for extra screening but it would not surprise me if it is.

A lot of people have had experience with administrative processing - a catch-all term that covers many things.

we were also handed the infamous blue paper 221g

ADMIN PROCESSING.

we received this paper Aug 26, 2005 and we still wait :clock:

at what point do we get out of this hell hole...

I was hoping that at least I could know the result in 6 weeks, as they promised. I dont even know what in the application triggers this extra security check. Anyways, good luck to all of us.

Don't worry. It happens to mainly male applicants. They do lots of security checking before issuing the visa. Your father will get the visa soon, I would say within 2-3 months, but it could be less than that time range.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

sam,

Captain Ewok has posted an explanation of this, from Ask the Visa Partner, in the Immigration News forum. You might want to look for it.

Every country varies on the length of time the security check takes as every consulate has a different workload and organization, and some just communicate better with the states. The length of AP in Morocco is different than in Egypt which is different than in Pakistan. I don't think there are any other members here currently that are on AP in Abu Dhabi but you may want to check the timeline search and see if there are any couples waiting. Wish you good luck (F)
