Hi there,

I did not make a copy of my application to adjust status, and as such, do not really know what I submitted.

Any idea what they are referring to? Do they mean ANOTHER original, and copy, of each and every photo I submitted? Something like that?

I sent in over 50 photos and many items and receipts form our wedding, travel itineraries, everything possible, really. Does this mean they need all the same again, in original form, plus another copy of each. Even though it all should be in my file?

I also cannot think of what to bring to the interview that I didn't submit the first time. I submitted a LOT!!!

Basically, do you know if I need more of all the same things again, and what do you think are the most important items. I don't want to overwhelm the officer and have a 10 hour interview...

Thanks!

Not to sound rude, but I am somewhat surprised that someone would engage in a complicated process like an AoS and take it so lightly that they don't know what they sent. For future reference, a copy of everything you send is useful, but if it's not possible, I would write down everything that was sent.

Now, "Bring original and copy of each supporting document that you submitted with your application" means that you need to bring the original of what you submitted. Hopefully, before sending everything, you carefully read and understood that you can send copies. If you did, then you need to bring the originals. For example, if you sent a copy of your marriage certificate, you need to bring the original at the interview.

So, yes, you need to bring the original of every document you submitted, marriage certificate, birth certificate, bills, taxes, etc.. They may not look at it, but it is what they require.

If you feel you have additional proof of bona fide relationship, then you may bring and present those as well.

Hi Kittyfang,

Thanks for your response. I understand bringing the originals of all the obvious like ID, marriage cert, leases, etc-- because what I sent was a copy. That makes sense.

For me though, the sentence I quoted, from the AOS interview checklist: to bring an "Original and copy of each supporting document that you submitted with your application" is a bit confusing. So they need a 2nd copy of everything, plus the originals, brought to the interview. Why the 2nd copy?

No, I did not make copies of my entire application package. So no, I cannot guarantee to them that I would have each and every photo, letter and card in its original and as a copy, a 2nd time. Frankly, it seems very unenvironmental and unnecessary. I submitted copies of old birthday cards, wedding cards, etc. I plucked them from a huge box of keepsakes that i have, and I do not know which ones, of 100s (?) that I chose. Of course I know the basic documents that I submitted.

I can assure you that I did not take the process lightly. My application was thorough and impeccably organised. I certainly got no RFE's or returned forms or anything like that and found the process very straightforward and fast to fill out and send in. But that does not mean I did not a great deal of care with it. I am quite environmentally minded-- thus no copies, and it also did not occur to me that they might want to see exactly the same photos and cards again. I thought it would be more useful to bring new ones, as proof of an ongoing relationship. Not photos from a wedding a year and a half ago. You know?

Save a copy of everything on the computer. Then if you need it again you can just reprint it. That's what we did.

Anyway, Kitty pretty much told you everything you need to know-the reason for the second copy is to give to USCIS should they want it. Sometimes they do. Also, they DO lose things. They want to see evidence of your whole relationship, not just recent items.

This is a good lesson for anyone going through this process-everyone gets this same letter for their interview.

You should always have record of everything you send to USCIS. You will go through all of this again at ROC time. :bonk:

The USCIS officer has EVERYTHING that you sent. You just need certified copies or originals and copies to bring to the interview in case they ask to see the original or in case they want to keep something - then they'll take a copy and just look at the original. If you sent a lot of photos, etc, the officer will have looked at them before the interview (ours did, however I'm sure it varies). Our officer didn't ask to see originals or copies of anything. He did ask if we wanted to submit more evidence, to which we said no.

Good luck.
