I'm a Permanent Resident, do I need to notify USCIS of my upcoming divorce?

Hello all,

I am a permanent 10 yr resident and just filed for divorce. I was wondering if it is necessary for me to contact USCIS and let them know about my divorce? I have read in several places that since I'm a permanent resident and not a conditional one my status should not change based on the divorce. But I was just wondering if I need to notify them of the divorce anyways in order for them to update my file? Please someone that has gone through something similar or knows of somebody let me know what I should do.

If you have moved as part of the divorce you do need to tell them your new address

My first (Japanese) wife never told them; it's not an issue after the 10-year card has been issued

because the holder's status is no longer dependent on the marriage but on his/her status as a resident.

Renewal does not depend on the spouse any more.
