I guess my issue with immigration is this, if you are leaving your country of nationality for another country, you are doing it for a reason. We hear a lot of people don't like the way their countries are governed, or how they think their governments have too much say over how they behave, or religion plays a pivotal role in the how the country is run, then why oh why do they move to another country and bring all those same issues with them. "Well in my counry we do this, or we do that" seriously you left your country for a reason, leave those values, leave those characteristics, leave those religious believes behind, leave behind all those things you are running from. If you want to move to another country, then you should go with the intention or integrating in to their culture and their way of life and most of all their laws. Yes I am an immigrant and I doing my best to integrate, although not easy I do not go out of my way to hold on to my old ways, I am trying my best to embrace my new life and new country, why can't everyone else?!

Your entire argument is flawed because you are assuming the rest of the world is hell-hole and only America and few Western countries are utopias. The facts are that there are hellish realities in all countries. People come to West or immigrate for a better life. That doesn't necessarily mean everything they are or were is bad thing. Muslims come to West for education, business, moving to another countries, earning a better wage. They don't come to West inspite of Islam or their faith or culture. Plenty of Americans and Westerners move to other countries. It's how human society works, stupid.

You're one of those immigrants who has forgotten about his roots from they way you write. Or perhaps you were chased out of your country for your disloyalty. You remind me of the Iranians in America who call themselves Persians. They are ashamed of their culture and country and faith.

Interesting though that this problem is playing out in a number of first world countries, that have had a significant Muslim immigration, over the last decade or two. Perhaps, this is just another one of those coincidences many on VJ like to mention . Just strange that it';s occurring in so many first world countries.

Whenever a country's minority groups stands up and becomes visible and demands equaity and fairness, the host country goes through a period of having these "problems." If only immigrants knews they are not equal to the citizens and kept to the shadows nothing would've happened.

For as long as there has been America, there were mosques in America. These mosques were in the shadows. In basement, in warehouses, and in people's living room. They were out of site, out of mind. Noone bitched about them. And now that Muslims are coming out and wanting to build proper houses of worships that looks like Islamic houses of worships, everyone's gone mad. If only Muslim continued to pray in makeshift prayer rooms behind the shops... things would've been so simplier.

I have not forgotten my roots and I am extremely proud of them, not necessarily of all the things they have done and atrocities they have helped to wage in other countries. I am of no religion, therefore cannot be ashamed of it.

I do not think other countries are hell holes and I have done a great deal of travel, I honestly think there is good and bad in every country and that were it nor for a minority then most countries would not get a bad name. As for thinking America and other western countries are utopia's I beg to differ, since coming to this country I have been shocked by the violence and crime, by the hypocrisy and lies, but these are not only in this country they are the world over. Believe me when I say I understand why people leave their countries to come here to the US or other countries to better themselves, we go where the opportunities are.

Each person is entitled to their opinion without being abused by others, if you do not like what I said then I think you need to keep that to yourself and not make personal attacks.

Did they go to 1940s era equivalent of forums and say they'd rather burn down Germany and kills 12 million people than let the evil Jews have equal rights and dignity in Europe.

If West wants to be equitable and just and follow through with its freedom of religion, then it should allow polygamy. What's more is that the issue of marriage is a personal matter. Government shouldn't tell who can and cannot get married. Please educate me. What exactly is wrong with polygamy? What's so bad about it?

The thing that boggles my mind is that adultery is not an criminal offense. But polygamy is. Isn't adultery the same thing as polygamy albeit without the strings attached?

People don't move to another country to practice their religion. They move for other reasons. While they move, they don't want to abandon their way of life, cultures, food, customs, religions, etc. Does anyone ###### about Italians still eating pasta after hundreds of years of being immigrants in America? Does anyone ###### that they practice Catholic Christianity and pledge allegiance to the Pope?

France is not a secular country. It's very much a religious country. Its government funds churches and synagogues. For fairness's sake, it also funds mosques.

Closing down entire streets for daily prays, like they do in Muslim countries, is not freedom of religion.

The same story is being played in a number of first world countries. Quite Frankly, the rest of us are getting sick and tired of having to bend over backwards to cater for one groups beliefs and way of life. When I travel to another country, I don't expect them to stop everything and cater for me.

Due to the size of the US, such changes have not hit home yet, so people like yourself still have the attitude of what's the big deal.
