Hi

a friend of mine is a active duty military and wants to petition her fiance from the Philippines. Can anybody here guide me as to what are the requirements that he should get to marry a foreign national or i guess to petition her to get here? Is it the normal procedure of a K1 visa petition? How can it be quicker since he is an active duty military and how long does it usually take?

It is the SAME way as everyone else, the only thing he can do is IF he is deploying to a COMBAT ZONE, VERY SOON! he can request an expedite but he needs to have proof that he is deploying, his papers stating deployment and letter from comander/first shirt etc.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

Yeah exactly the same as non-military. The only time the foreign national thing comes up is if he gets married 2 her in another country but even then its no real issue. I'm active duty so if there are any specific question (about expediting and such) let me know. Your friend can call the military helpline with any specific questions too. 1-877-CIS-4MIL (877-247-4645)

29 March 2012 Received everything back...wrong fee. thought we didn't have to pay biometrics since we were sending fingerprint cards and passport photos.

30 March 2012 Sent everything out again from Aviano AB, Italy.

10 April 2012 Check cashed

17 April 2012 Received NOA1 dated 6 April.

06 Dec 2012 Received 10 yr green card. Letter said it was approved 28 November 2012.

As the other VJ member has said, the process is the same. The only difference might involve checking to see if he would qualify for an expedite (your friend could read the details on expedite requirements at USCIS website).

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

If your friend wants to get married, then your friend needs to come here and research her own information. This process is complex and being the middle man is not going to be very helpful to her. Send her the links to the guides here and ask her to read and study!!!

I am in the exact same process right now.

they say it's quicker if your significant other is active military

but I think that's just some ear candy.

I'm going at the rate as everybody else!

Why would military people be faster? Actually to me it seems like if one is about to deploy they should require the military person to wait until they get back or at least wait until they are 7-8 months from return date before filing. It makes no sense they would let someone in the military expedite if they are about to leave. Where is the logic in that? The military person is going to be deployed to a foreign country, so what good does it do to have his/her spouse in they US? What is the logic behind them expediting a petition from someone in the military?
