Im on an F-1 international student in the States. USCIS received my application for permanent residence on Feb, 2010. On May, I received my work permit authorization card in the mail. 10 days after, USCIS sent a document regarding my travel doc (i-131) which was undeliverable by the post office (according to the USCIS website)!! I checked the status online on June, and USCIS had denied my application (i-485 and i-130) on June. Now, I dunno why I didn't receive the travel doc by the stupid post office if I received my EAD 10 days before to the same address!!. Second, does USCIS deny the whole thing if a doc was undeliverable?? (which would be really pathetic) I guess this was their mistake for not even sending me an e-mail or something. This is a really stupid system they use. Anyway, I talked to a congressman; the lawyer tells me I have to refile, which I don't wanna do since i don't have the money. My wife filed an info pass to see if she can get the denial letter and the real reason. Is it possible they r asking for more info? I heard that sometimes the status online in the system could be denied, but actually the officers are waiting for more documentation or something, so they correct and go ahead with the whole application???

Please, somebody can help me? It would cost me a lot to reapply besides my status would be in jeopardy.

First - you would have to find out if it was denied, and for what reason.

Re-filing, without correcting the initial denial reason would result most likely in another denial.

They would not normally deny the whole case if your 131 was sent back due to be undeliverable - you should check your copies of everything and ensure the address is correct. (some people have made mistakes on multiple forms).

USCIS, however, will deny your case if you were sent a RFE for something, and you didn't respond in the amount of time given. Since your 131 was undeliverable, they could of sent an RFE to you. (without your timeline - hard to know this one).

Get that INFOPASS done and find out what is going on.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

I agree with Bobby + Umit.

Check the copy of your AOS packet and look on every single form which address you out there. Make sure it is not an error on your side. When you double checked and you haven't made any mistakes, take that copied AOS packet to the infopass appointment with you.

I would guess that there was an issue with your address (since you said that USPS could not deliver one letter to you). Maybe the interview letter was also not delivered and since you didn't show up your AOS was denied? Or an RFE they sent was unanswered and they denied your application?

Find out the reason for the denial, then you'll be able to figure out what your next step should be.

Good luck!
