Are you sure that no EAD is needed if a green card has already been issued?

As I said before, we just got the green card today (Nov. 16, 2010), but the USCIS site still says the green card hasn't been produced yet. The last update was on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010 (even though the card was mailed to us on Nov. 9, 2010), and the Case Status is set to "Post-Decision Activity", not "Card/Document Production".

However, for the EAD, there has been activity on the USCIS Web site since the green card was mailed. Yesterday, the case status was on "Initial Review", but today, it shifted all the way to "Card/Document Production" and there is a statement that a new card was ordered to be produced on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010 (today). Doesn't this make it sound like they will make a separate EAD card?

Once you have your green card in hand, the EAD becomes void. :) (At AOS interviews, they tell applicants to cut up the EAD card after their GC is approved so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.)

No I haven't. My wife's biometric appointment went smooth. It was 10/29. We haven't heard anything since. I hoping we will can at least get the EAD so she can work.

Yeah, you probably should have at least gotten your AOS appointment by now. Unless something is going really slow at your office. You could try calling USCIS to see why you haven't been issued an appointment date. I don't know if there is a time period for the issuance of an appointment.

For the EAD though we didn't hear anything after the bio. We took it and then a month later we were notified that it was approved. So you won't hear on that but it is suss that you haven't been given an interview date. It doesn't hurt to call if anything you'll just get a blow-off but sometimes you find out little bits of info that they don't have on their site.

If the EAD card is invalid after the green card is received, then why did the USCIS bother to produce an EAD card for us on Nov. 16, more than one week after approving our I-485 (green card) application on Nov. 8?

Is this a case of a government agency wasting time and money, or is there a real purpose for the EAD card after the green card is received?

Sounds like USCIS wasting time and money.

The EAD is supposed to be an interim solution to authorize an AOS applicant to work (and get an SSN) until the GC is approved. In most cases, the EAD is issued within less than 2 months and then the GC usually winds up being approved 2 months later (or longer, depending if the applicant requires an AOS interview).

If the EAD card is invalid after the green card is received, then why did the USCIS bother to produce an EAD card for us on Nov. 16, more than one week after approving our I-485 (green card) application on Nov. 8?

Two weeks ago we got an RFE on something we shouldnt have. They asked for my Kids Birth certificate and my taxes. I know i have sent it in. Mind you.. this is a second time they i sent it in. The first time they sent the whole packet back. And when i asked them why.. they did not know.

Question for all of you. My wife has her Green Card. and Ukrainian passport. Do we need any other documents to come back to United states?

What name is she using on her green card? Her married name or her maiden name?

If she is using her married name on her green card and her maiden name on her Ukrainian passport she will also need to present your marriage certificate.

We passed our interview!!!! We should have the hubby's green card in about 3 weeks.

I swear I was about to have a heart attack today. The guy could not be read what-so-ever. He seriously looked like he did not like us at all. When he started asking about our break up and previous marriages I thought we were done for. It sounded like we weren't going to get it because maybe he thought we weren't stable or something. Then once we answered all his questions and was waiting on one more background check to clear (which I didn't get considering the 50 we went through before) he started saying congratulations and talking about how we should get our girl back in to soccer cause his kids loved it.

It was a complete 180 from the personality he had at the start. I spent the whole interview doing deep breathing techniques and grabbing on to my husbands leg to keep from freaking out. :P

Then once we answered all his questions and was waiting on one more background check to clear (which I didn't get considering the 50 we went through before) he started saying congratulations and talking about how we should get our girl back in to soccer cause his kids loved it.

It was a complete 180 from the personality he had at the start. I spent the whole interview doing deep breathing techniques and grabbing on to my husbands leg to keep from freaking out. :P

02-23-2018: Sent N-400 Application online

02-23-2018: Date on NOA, retrieved from online account

02-23-2018: Date on Biometrics Appointment Letter (Biometrics Appointment at Jacksonville ASC on March 13, 10:00 a.m.)

03-08-2018: Biometrics complete

04-05-2018: Case status updated - Interview Scheduled on May 10, 2018, 10:15 a.m. :D

05-10-2018: Citizenship Interview - Passed English and Civics Tests, Recommended for Approval! :D 

06-19-2018: Received email and text notification: Naturalization Ceremony Scheduled; waited for letter to be uploaded on online account - it has been set on Wednesday, July 25, 3:00 p.m.

07-25-2018: I am now a U.S. Citizen!
