Original documents (e.i., marriage certificate and birth certificate) are required by NVC, right?

December 2009, My girl was denied on K1, she did not get back the original or certified copies, and she did not ask for them. We had to have new cetified copies this time, and photocopies also. If you do not have them returned, ask for them............

That's suck. It was a pain to get the original, I surely don't want to lose them like that.

Moving to CR1 Area..

Scott,

Do you know how to say "certified copy" in Vietnamese?

they will accept it ...! Long as it is certified by is Issuing State/Country/ and NOT notorized.

what??? I have never ever heard that. Why would it have to be NOT notarized? All my documents had to be notarized in order for the official translator to translate them. This is a translator that was provided by the Consulate website...what does having it notarized have to do with the acceptance of it?

Translation of the document has to be notarized.

But the certified copy is not. It is actually issued by the agency who issued the original document. They will put their seal, sign etc.

now that I think of it, it was an apostille. We got the marriage certificate copies from the place where we were married, then to another place to verify the signature of the notary, THEN to another to get it apostilled. Finally, the translator translated both the document and the apostille for us..I dont know if that is normal procedure, but that is what I had to do

If you can process electronically (EP) then you scan all your documents and email them in but then you bring ALL of the same documents submitted electronically to the consulate when you interview. Hence the originals. If you do NOT do EP then you submit y our original documents to NVC then at the time of interview ask the consulate for your originals back.

Good luck

How long are staying Turkey? Do you have family here that can send your document for you? I am leaving soon for Vietnam but I am going to assign my dad as the agent. He can send documents to NVC on my behalf. You need to send birth certificate and police report to NVC. I advise you to send the certified copies instead of original marriage and birth certificate.

melbar, your best bet is make her as Choice of Agent in DS-3032. Then you can mail your 'original' or 'certified true copies' with one full set photocopies to her, so that she can forward them to NVC.

As soon as your case is transferred to NVC, let your wife call NVC live operator and provide both your emails ids so that you can email your DS-3032 making her as COA.

ds-3032 is for the beneficiary, so fill it out with the beneficiary's address.

DS-230 is for the beneficiary, so you must put both addresses there, in the proper places.

The birth certificate, police report, marriage certificate, et.al. , known as 'civil documents' , are sent in with the DS-230, to NVC. Perhaps a good time to review:

DS-230 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

I-864 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3730.html

General NVC stuff - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1335.html

Most people send the 'ds-230 packet' to their USC Spouse, who in turn, sends it off to NVC. YOU CAN send it directly to NVC, of course, as it's YOUR VISA APPLICATION.

Good Luck !

Hello here!

I left my original documents for translation. Then I am going to notarize translation and notarise copies of original documents for send them to NVC (2nd step).

Then, I heard, I will need to show my original documents in interview in US Embassy (3rd step).

So.. for I-130 petition USCIS needs just copies?? I understand right the process?

Correct. Copies to USCIS. But if the document is not in English, USCIS needs the notarized translation of the original.
