You aren't? I thought you were! (jk)

I know what you mean, they are representing their faith and how they do that will affect what people think of them and their religion. I don't deny that. But some people who want to find out more about what some people believe, would have to dig deeper than just being around a Christian or Muslim if they really wanted to evaluate someone's actions being associated with their faith or not. (long sentence there!)

For sure, and one hint that their research will not turn out well is when the sources they use have nothing good to say about that faith.

Personally, every Muslim I know criticizes the way other Muslims do Islam. They all think their Islam is the right Islam. I've seen this both in Muslims in India and in Muslims here.

Very true

If I based my views on something only with my experiences, then some of my experiences are walking behind girls in college, wearing hijabi's while using the F-word and talking horribly. To me that is hypocritical. Wearing an outward symbol, for what reason exactly in that case? If I walked around with a big cross necklace on, while using the F-word I'd think I was a hypocrite too. (yeah I know people do that too haha)Maybe some people wouldn't care, but since I am religious myself I do care. I know that not every Muslim is represented by that girl, and she just represents the hypocrites in any religion.

I can say the same for the man who would stand around outside at college with hateful Christian signs and called girls that walked by sluts for their clothes and told everyone how horrible they were. It angered many of us other Christians and sometimes if a Christian was around when he was, they would confront this man. He made a spectacle of himself. I do not care for Islam, or Hinduism, or Buddhism obviously since I didn't decide to follow any of those. I don't like their belief systems. That doesn't mean I will think every Muslim is a terrorist or that every Christian is hateful.

Maybe they were talking that way about Jews. That would make it ok I believe.

I've yet to hear a convincing argument about why it should be an issue. IMO it's only an issue because elements of the media are pandering to peoples prejudices.

It's an issue because a large number of people (60 percent of New Yorkers) care about it.

I don't think they care about it because the media blew it out of proportion; it's rather the other way around.

If the media had not had reported it and framed it in a way that played to prejudice, there would be no controversy.

Maybe those 60% should quit being such lazy cheap bastards and pool their money together to buy the parcel. It was my understanding that the parties who want to develop the land don't own the land yet. Here is their opportunity to flex their muscle and demonstrate their property rights. But I suspect, you can't jam feigned outrage into an ATM.

No they aren't selectively incorrect, you would be appalled at some of the things I think. But it doesn't make sense when someone says that former Muslims can only speak honestly about Islam because they can't criticize it if they are still practicing. I have known Catholics who quit practicing and criticize Catholicism then bash christianity and catholicism. Besides this has nothing to do with me or my opinions, your post was completely off topic.

You're probably right. I'll work harder at finding a better example.

They paid cash for half of the property in question. The other part is a contract lease with option to buy which the owners have publically stated they intend to honor.

I thought the other part of the parcel was owned by ConEd and subject to approval from their board. At least that is what I read when I initially read about this situation.

60% of 8.4 million is 5 million people.

Even if they contributed $10 each, it's still only $50 million.
