Hi Guys,

I follow this site often and have look through these threads but with no luck. I know you guys are good with advice so I'll shoot:

My background - I am on an J1 visa and have been interning at a new music company in NYC over the summer while working in retail part-time. My working visa date expires on Oct 10th and I am expected to leave the US on 25th October.

My boss, from the music company, has agreed to sponsor my stay here which I'm excited about. My issue is what are the costs involved for my boss to sign me up? Also as a back-up income I am considering taking on a second job. Is this allowed?

Last question(s) - how long does the application for a sponsored visa take and can I stay in NYC while the application takes place.

I will be grateful of any help and advice!

Thank You!

shea

I'm confused, you're currently in the US on a J-1 visa right? But you're looking for sponsorship (per your headline) for an H1 visa?

Is this right?

Not very clear what the question is, but on H1 you cannot work for any other employeer.

It clearly state on your H1 visa who is your employeer, you can change your employeer but you cannot work for 2 same employeer at same time.

If you get another H1-b (yes, you can hold multiple H1-b's concurrently) from the other employer, you can.

(there is a section in the CFR--"Code of Federal Regulations"--somewhere which details this; it is acceptable to have multiples of any one type of temporary work visa, but not concurrent multiple types such as H1-b and TN-1)

Saddle - you can hold multiple H1 but you cannot work for multiple employeer at same time. On the same visit you cannot work 40 hrs for company A and another 20 hrs for company B.

I think this is what exactly OP is asking is he can work for 2 employeer at same time.
