Why is Prohibition always used here like some magical example? This is 2010 and that is alcohol, not drugs.

It is a good example. Sorry, but not surprised you fail to grasp the comparison.

It is a good example. Sorry, but not surprised you fail to grasp the comparison.

Alcohol is not the same as narcotics, so spare me the silly comparison. Legalizing something like GHB, is the worst thing any community can do.

Failure in strategy, inadequate resources and conflicting laws is hardly an example of something not working. It's the equivalent of tying your hands and feet, then expecting you to travel a mile up an mountain in an hour. Then when you are unable to do so, which for logical reasons we all knew would happen, calling you a failure. Yep, it's that extreme.

These drug cartels are not rocket scientist. Make an example of them as they do in various Asian countries, with death sentences for the worst offenders. Also make it clear that targeting any government official will result in the automatic death sentence for both them and their immediate families; using any force necessary.

You cannot fight cancers by legalizing them.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

For those that think legalizing drugs would stop the violence, I ask why do you think so? Do you think the drug lords are going to submit to government regulation? Will it stop the rival cartels from killing each other and anyone who gets in their way? Will it end competition for control of certain turf? Will it end attempts at taking over a rivals business?

I am interested in hearing your reasons.

People clearly don't realize this is about money and power. Legalizing it would just turn their billions into tens of billions. They'll use the money they have to establish factories and literally kill off their competition. Legalizing it will only affect the small time dealer in a neighborhood.

In reality like a cancer, it needs to be destroyed. Also like a cancer, when left alone, it just grows and grows. until it destroys the body; which is a family, a community, city or even an entire country.

Jokes aside, I had friends who rolled in such circles and let me tell you, it was all about the money. Anyone who assumes they are going to give this up, is crazy and in denial. Trying to find a simple solution to make it all go away. Unfortunately that is not how problems [cancers] work, they simply get worse and worse.

Someone is definitely being paid off for everyone to be so mum on this issue. These cartels have inflicted greater damage to America and Americans than 1,000 Bin Ladens, yet we do nothing; well nothing adequate.

If the US cannot take on some drug Cartels, good luck trying to take on a China.

We took on China back in the 50's...it was called the "Korean War".

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

What have you done there? Have you sent in specialist US forces? Have you used remote air support?

If the strategy does not work, you change strategies, you don't just quit.

Dam straight you do what you are doing there. You don't even have a freagin border, you think you can contain this violence and keep it in Mexico?

The 'strategy' has been in place for better than 30 years. Stick to it is a great credo but sometimes it is crucial to recognize failure and rethink your options.

Hammer the employers with ruinous taxes...

Maybe now it's not the best time to hammer anyone with taxes, with the economy still recovering from the worst downturn in decades?

Is that what happened when alcohol was legalized? There are still lots of small wineries and microbreweries, they didn't get killed off.
