G/A are you actually under the assumption Churches have some "automatic right to build"?

I personally know of one where I used to live who spent a fortune fighting to get a permit to build but some neighbors did not want it and kept legal challenges going.

A couple hundred yards from my house an ophthalmologist wants to build an office (on his land) some people are fighting it.

Ever tried to build something in an "HISTORICAL DISTRICT"?

THey will even tell you the limits of the colors you may paint your house!

if you buy in the wrong neighborhood you could face this as well!

many people come from not so nice neighborhoods so they WANT to live in these places. they look at it as a 'protection' in their 'investment'. no one can have run down house, overgrown yard, junk cars on street... problem is they restrict so tightly that people cant even mow their own yards and must get a 'service' to do it becase there's no room in their garage for yard equipment (must have vehicles parked inside at night) and they are not allowed to have any other structures on the property (their OWN property!) so no garden shed. most neighborhoods here that are like that have 3 colors your home can be, even dictate what material the home can be, (wood siding, no metal, and so on) and i have even seen contract with restriction on front windows must all be white-backed!

eeek! just the thought of that much restriction makes me want to have a pink or purple house and this is comign from someone who is very traditional!! (with maybe a SMALL touch of rebel )

thing that freaks me out the most about all that? these same people PAY a HOA (home owner's association) to enforce the rules... and they can even take your house away!!!

I am compelled to ask, what is the definition of a "moderate Muslim" for the purposes of satisfying right wing demands? I get the impression that they need to be Christians or Zionists to pass the smell test.

- I was referring to his suggestion that simply being a "private property owner" opens the door to develop as desired.

-FOr me a moderate Muslim is one who does not act like he is the referee between terrorists and their targets. He does not speak as if he is the marriage counselor between a squabbling husband and wife...... just trying to help them "meet in the middle."

NOw just to clarify, I don't believe I have ever said the City of NY should prevent them from building this Mosque, but I do believe the People of NY should decide that.... just as communities all across this country decide things that are constructed in their communities and I have pointed out endless examples of this.

If as you say all the legal and administrative procedures are behind them, what is stopping them from building..... even if everyone in the country is opposed to it?
