Libertarians, this sounds like a conspiracy, what do you think? Who do they think they are to be telling us about the car? Let the consumer perform their own analysis.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Libertarians wouldn't be against learning about the merits of various models but private groups like those behind Consumer Reports could serve the same function.

There's still a bigger problem with getting consumers to buy enough cars that meet CAFE standards for the car fleets. Historically, they made plenty of smaller cars that didn't sell as well as the SUVs. Detroit got a greater profit from the SUVs than the downscale models.

They made shitty cars, then the consumer here living in middle America is not exactly the sharpest knife in the draw. I can spot people who moved here from such places based on the vehicle they drive, usually not a sedan.

Private groups have their own interests, it's why they are called private. A government on the other hand is established by we the people and is for the people. About time repub and libertarians grasp this alien yet simple concept.

Most Americans don't know how electricity is made. So any mileage sticker is a waste of time. The slim fraction that are awake can figure things out on their own.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

There's no evidence for that as SUV sales outstripped any internal migration patterns.

In fact, Maryland lost population in the 1990s and only international newcomers like Booyah changed things.

"Between 1990 and 1998, Maryland had a net loss of 49,000 in domestic migration and a net gain of 118,000 in international migration. Maryland's foreign-born population totaled 412,000, or 8% of the total population, in 1996. In 1998, 15,561 foreign immigrants arrived in the state—the 10th-highest total of any state for that year. Between 1990 and 1998, the state's overall population increased 7.4%. In the period 1995–2000, 495,152 people moved into the state and 514,875 moved out, for a net loss of 19,723, many of whom moved to Virginia."

Since 2000 it's not those from the Midwest but Hispanics who must be driving all those gas guzzlers in Maryland.

"Maryland ranks the 13th highest in the nation in immigration. Nearly 227,500 immigrants have taken residence in Maryland since the last decennial census.

About 6 percent of the total national population is Hispanic, according to the community survey. In 1960, 75 percent of the foreign-born were European, while only 9.4 percent were Hispanic. Hispanics now represent nearly half the foreign-born population, according to the survey.

"Whites, in the 18-and-younger group, are already a minority in many metropolitan areas," Wilson said. "I do think that's a trend that will continue. Immigration is not going to stop any time soon."
