Hey, you all are probably gone on your trips by now, but I wanted to add that my hubby (UK citizen) and I (US citizen) went through the EU citizen line at Heathrow last May with no problems. He went in front and introduced me as his spouse. This worked fine at every EU airport we visited on that trip.

EU immigration law says "Family members who do not have the nationality of a Member State enjoy the same rights as the citizen who they have accompanied." We interpreted that to mean I could hit up the citizen line, and it went fine.

The law I mentioned:

This has completely made my day! I was refused entry into the UK a few years ago because of a paperwork mishap regarding an internship. I was worried that I was going to have to get a visitor's visa every time I traveled back to the UK with my soon-to-be husband after we get married in April so that I wouldn't be refused again. This will save me loads of money!

If the queue for non-EU citizens is rather long, then I would ask if you can both go in the EU line. Generally that is ok. However once I was stood behind a family who had been told to go the EU line (I think one was UKC and the spouse and kids were all USC) but when they got to the desk the official was like, "NO you can't come here." Not sure whether he relented or they had to go to the back of the non-EU line. Any bets on when immigration will become consistent? :B
