He will get GC at petitioner's address.

If you have checked to get new SSN in DS-230, they will mail it out. If it takes longer time, you can go to nearest SS office with the GC, fill out SS-5 form and apply.

He can get the job with GC and SSN. Employer will ask him to fill out I-9 form.

Happy re-union!

THANK YOU! Do you know by any chance how long does it take for GC to arrive after his visa was approved? Is it based on approval date or what?

And how long should we wait for soc sec to come, because some people told me hey waited and waited and finally had to go to ss office,do you think we should wait or as soon as we have GC on hand, just go to the office and apply for it????

After Port of Entry, it normally takes 4 weeks to get the plastic GC.

SSN also comes in the same period. If you don't get by then, go to SS office to apply one with GC and other required documents of SS-5 form.

You can track your GC at USCIS website with the case#.

Sorry to bother you,but where at USCIS??? I know I went to-check my status with that first number(three letters and numbers) but that one is only for status of your case.Where do I check GC at USCIS site? The same thing,or is it different title/question to check for GC? I noticed thay even shortened those DOTS for case, before they had like 6 or so ,now there only 4..so I assume it's not that :)

We checked yes to the social security card but had heard that they never sent it to many people so i didnt know if we should just go do it or wait either. Kinda want to get it as soon as possible as i need to take him to get his license and all of that.... Thank you for the answers to her question therefore answering mine too hahahaha

It is the same site. After your beneficiary provides the unopened sealed visa envelope (got from the Consulate) to the POE officer, they enter the information in the system and forwards to the USCIS office. So, when you enter your Receipt/Approval number after the above process, you can see "Card Ordered/Production".

Happy?

I had one year in my employment based GC in 2002. I think USCIS changed the photo spec in 2003 or later.

if you don't get your SSC or GC in the mail after a few weeks you have to go to the SS office and request an SSC.

and if you don't get the GC or welcome letter after 30 days or something you have to contact USCIS.

after you have the GC and SSN you should be good to work or anything.

most employers may not let you work until you have the physical GC i think.

Don't know,my husband will ask tomorrow when he goes to pick up his visa,if stamp is ok as a proof to get ssn or id...anyway,it's going to take week or two for him to get situated, even though when i came to US I went to wrk after 5 days :( Don't remember how I had my GC so fast, maybe i 've got mine while in my country still, really don't remember..but i do remember going the very next day into local ss office getting ssn :)

Oh well...we'll see, what's most important is that we are finally done with this and can finally start our marriage and our normal life together w/o limitations in time(like when you visit and it's time to leave and it's heartbreaking...) so...little by little things will fall into places. But it was tough.it really was.

when he comes through the POE -

his passport will get ANOTHER stamp in it, sometimes referred to as an 'I-551 stamp' -

which validates his VISA stamp to be utilized as a

temporary green card (up to one year duration) .

so that 'extra stamp' on POE date, effectively is a 'temporary green card'.

re: SSN - regardless of what is ticked on the DS-230 - strongly suggest going in to SSA office on day 15, past the POE date, and apply - ask clerk to look him up in the SAVE database with either his name or A# (printed on the visa stamp)

If they can't find him in the SAVE system, don't fret then - come back in a week, apply again, do NOT accept any processing at SSA for 'DHS/USCIS electronic verfication' - that's a frickin boondoggle, a huge waste of time.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
